I’m not sure if i got into my major however. I would assume so but i cannot find anything on MyUCSC which says explicitly “Computer Engineering” though i applied to it.
I actually have the same issue! Every other school I have ever applied too clearly shows you but not this one. I did get some email about some program saying something like “you showed interest in engineering majors” bu that’s the most conformation I’ve gotten. Let me know if you figure out how to check your admitted major.
"Thank you for your email. Students are not admitted directly to a major when they begin at UCSC. All student will officially declare their major with their department advisor once a student at UCSC. As long as you have completed all of the requirements for admission to the major, there should not be any issues in terms of officially declaring the major. Our School of Engineering reviews all transfer applications to ensure major prep has been adequately completed to admission to all of their majors.
When you log into your portal, there is a “Update Major” option under the Main Menu. You should be able to view your current major under that section.
I hope this helps answer your questions."
What do you think? This isn’t from actual admissions this is from my regional admissions person for my community college.
This sounds accurate to me because I read elsewhere that freshman are also not admitted to majours, they are simply admitted to the school. It seems kind of sketchy to me though because if there is even I slight chance I won’t get into my majour, that will deter me from going to a school. I got accepted to UCSD last year but turned it down because I was accepted as undeclared and getting into CS at that point is highly unlikely (I applied for CS and CE). I guess you could always make some calls to different departments at the school and try to have someone tell you how likely you are to get into a major but I am going to wait until I hear back from some other schools first.
Have either of you visited yet? I was admitted as well I applied for EE but would like to switch to CE. When I was there the associate dean of the college said that as long as you meet the requirements you are in and as transfers we have to declare at the end of our 1st quarter.
I have not visited, and I have not ruled the school out by any means, but I was worried for a bit mostly because I don’t want to be stuck in some majour I don’t want. If what you say is true (and I have seen other sources that said something similar) then I am not worried. There are other schools that I am considering over UCSC though which is why I haven’t been worried about looking into the issue yet.
I’ve talked to a few people and i am in fact accepted to the major. They will just do a review when you arrive then official add it. My worry is that i want to do the BS/MS program which must be applied for first quarter junior year BUT you need to be in a CE major which will also be done first quarter junior year!
So do you guys think that since i’ve been accepted, and I drop a course that is a major requirement… it wouldn’t jeopordize my acceptance? Since i’ve been accepted into the school, so could I take the course in my first quarter there? (They don’t accept summer coursework)
That’s something you’d have to call and ask admissions about. If I were you though I’d just finish the course with a C. Sacrificing a little bit to pass now is going to benefit you in the future. Personally I don’t understand why so many people try to drop majour requirement courses the term before they are transferring.
Got rejected to ucsc. Psych transfer, 3.5 gpa, and completed all tap. This is really disappointing. I’ve seen posts of 3.0 psych majors getting accepted so does anyone know why I might not have been accepted??
@mdbill UCSC has really strict criteria with psych, you must have a C or better in pre calculus, B- or better in statistics and a B- or better in psych 1a. It’s on the UCSC website under transfer agreements.
