Hello,
I’m having trouble deciding between San Jose State University and UC Santa Cruz. I’ve sent my statement of registration for sjsu but I was just accepted off of ucsc’s waitlist last night. My major for sjsu is biomedical engineering(bme) and for ucsc it’s bioengineering. After some research I found that sjsu’s bme program may be ABET acredited in 2018, and UCSC’s bme program isn’t ABET accredited. I’ve heard it’s slightly easier transferring to another UC from a UC (ucsc) rather than a CSU(sjsu). I also know that many students in San Jose State are guaranteed jobs because of the location within Silicon Valley. But I live nearby and if I don’t get housing at SJSU then I have to commute from home (about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic), and I won’t be getting the dorm experience. The deadline to send the transcript from my school is June 15th and I wanted to make a decision tonight, and request the transcript on monday so I have two days gap before the deadline in case anything goes wrong. Our school can only send one transcript so I was waiting until now in case any openings came up, but now I’m more confused than before. Any thoughts?
As long as you are comfortable with the housing situation at UCSC and you can handle the added expense, I’d give them the nod. The UC Cachet and research focus of the school make it a winner for hard sciences.
