Hello, I got into these two schools but cannot decide which is best for me. I will be a theater major. From what I gather UC Santa Cruz is a “better” school being ranked #11 in Top Public Universities in California by Niche. However, I have heard that Cal State Long Beach’s theater program is great. It was ranked #110 in the US by Niche.
Overall, I want a good program that I can excel in and a good experience. I would appreciate hearing from you all. Thank you.
CSULB
Pros: Great theater program.
Cons: Commuter School
UCSC
Pros: Great campus
Cons: Questionable theater program.
Would you live on campus or commute at either one?
Have you reached out to the Theater faculty to know what types of productions they offer each year?
Is there a cost difference?
CSULB has a very good theater program. What are your aspirations for after you graduate?
CSULB has been developing their residential program over the past several years. We live in LA County and many students who are within a commuting distance choose to live in the dorms. That’s not to say that they won’t go home on the weekends or choose to commute after they move out of the dorms. Unfortunately, CSULB has a large problem with homeless students. Hello,
I would live on campus for sure at UCSC and would commute 30 min or live on campus at CSULB. Yes, I will meet with the faculty. CSULB is cheaper but UCSC is not out of my budget. All great things to think about.

I am not sure about my future aspirations. I am going to college to explore.
I am sorry to hear about lack of housing issue. Students work so hard and rent is expensive. Thank you for the insight.
