UCSD and others, low SAT

I think UCSD might be my best match for california schools, but I will be applying to many of the other UC's and Cal states.

Junior at a competitive high school in Southern California.
UC GPA: around 4.2

Lot's of art classes, Maybe Leadership next year.

*Does my SAT score totally screw me up, or do I have a chance? Also can anyone recommend some good private schools in California for me?

apply to uc merced ... their student-faculty ratio is 8:1

like a private school experience but its a public UC

Caro:

UCLA/UCB: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCD/UCSB/UCI: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety
Cal States: Safety

Some good private schools you may want to check out are University of San Diego (USD), Pepperdine, and Occidental.

UCSD depends on your major. You would have a shot for majors not impacted, but your SATs wou;d be low for a science major. Tell us more of what you're looking for as far as privates go.

are those AP classes from sophmore and junior year? are you planning to take any senior year?

The AP's are from Sophmore, Junior, and Senior years

UCSD doesn't take major into account, unless it's engineering. your test scores are a bit below UCSD's average, so I say it's a slight reach.

Ooh, Caro, you'll like what I have to say. Well, regarding the SAT score, I mean.

Got in UCSD with a 1260 SAT equivalent on my ACT. The bulk of my AP classes are on-going; US History was the only AP I took junior year. The rest of my underclassman years consisted of just honors classes.

Didn't take AP Calc this year, either. :) You have a chance @ UCSD. Seriously. I mean, the numbers I gave them are pretty average compared to the top-notch digits they received from other students, but you have a chance.

So what contributed to my admission @ that school? Probably my essays. But I sure wish I did better on those standardized tests.
