Hello- Based upon published 2003 admission info, you exceed the average GPA for admits to UCSD. I am assuming that you meant 1340-1350 for SAT, in which case you also would exceed the average score for UCSD admits in 2003. My undesrstanding is that UCSD weights the SAT IIs more heavily than SAT I, so that will be an important factor> If you hold leadership positions in your clubs, that would be a boost to your application. Your chances look good for UCSD. I believe the Cal States have rolling admission, so apply early for safety. You should have no problem being admitted to those schools. You are a good candidate for the UC system, as well.Be sure that your high school sends your trasncripts to be evaluated for ELC.

Unfortunatley I will not be able to make the top 4%. What is ELC?
Also: what might my chances be at some of the more difficult UC's like UCLA, and Berkeley

Dood..it doesnt matter..ELC just gives a edge....u have a great chance...well i say almost 80 percent chance unless you screw up your essays. Psh..ppl have to realize, ELC is important but other qualities will put you over other applicants with ELC

ELC ( Eligibility inthe Local Contact) is a program which identifies students in the top 4% of their high school. You are given extra points for ELC when your application is reviewed, so it increases your chance of admission. It also guarantees your admission to one of the schols( often Irvine), and serves as a good predictor of admission to other campuses. Still, you have a very good chance without it. You would definitely be in range for UCB and UCLA as far as your stats, but they have low admission rates ( less tan 50% for those with averages 4.0 and above), so it is still very competitive.

-700? Only for Berk and ucla and those are competitve,,,,fairly competitive?

ELC is huge, it is not needed to get inot any UC but it helps a ton. Habving ELC is like a full 1.0 higher for ur UC gpa, or like 1000 more SAT points.

Not all UC's count SAT2's more than the 1's

Why is your GPA so high and yet your in the top 8% , school gives out a lot of A's?

know the feeling. stupid competitive schools.
anyways, I dont know much about the UCs, but i do know that you have a great shot at SD and UCLA is a very slight reach in my opinion.

It also guarantees your admission to one of the schols( often Irvine), and serves as a good predictor of admission to other campuses.

Because of the budget cuts, ELC stopped guaranteeing admissions (they had this disclaimer since last year, and I'm pretty sure they did just the same this year since the budget doesn't look any better).

ELC is huge, it is not needed to get inot any UC but it helps a ton. Habving ELC is like a full 1.0 higher for ur UC gpa, or like 1000 more SAT points.

ELC looks nice and it fills out some of the more tedious parts of your application for you, but this "boost" is too far fetched. I graduated from a class of around 900 and I'd say there were probably 30 kids at least who got ELC designation, and with that type of boost (1.0 higher gpa/ 1000 more SAT points), they would have shot through the roof in their chances at ANY UC.

Caro:
I'd say you have a great chance at UCSD (suprisingly during my year, UCSD seemed to be more lenient than UCD in the type and number of students they accepted from my school: for 1 of the cases, her weighted gpa was around 3.6 and SAT I around 1250ish combined with minimal extra curriculars who was rejected from Davis but accepted into SD). Chances at LA and Cal are the same (sometimes one will reject a student who is accepted by the other), but I'd say you can't really tell at this point knowing only a hypothetical SAT I score and nothing about the SAT II's. Your gpa and EC has you in a good running based on those categories alone though.

also look at the % of people getting into the UC's who have elc and those who do not
though most people who do not have elc will not have as great of a package as those who do the percenatges show to a degree how much value elc is. THis link to the graphs is on UC pathways ... iw posted the link in a different post awhile ago.
