UCSD Do I have A Chance ?

I'm an African American who currently resides in San Diego.
I had an Overall weighted GPA of 3.5 until my Junior year when it dropped to a 2.5 because two of my relatives were shot and I had to deal with a lot of problems that year including a family divorce.
My family earns 11,000 a year and I am the first in my family to attend college.

I got a 2100 on my sat which shows that I am actually a good student.

I have 5 years of Arabic reading and writing. I also do many extracurriculars and programs.

So to cut it short I messed up my chances ion my junior year and I deeply regret it. My family is depending on me to get into college and they constantly remind me of the weight on my shoulders. It feels like they all are watching me to hit a clutch shot in order to save their lives.

Lastly, I'm going to be a senior next year and I'm going to be taking 5 AP classes and taking a class at my local community college via dual enrollment. Do you guys think that I will be accepted ?

Your SAT is definitely in range for UCSD and taking 5 APs seems like a pretty rigorous courseload senior yr so that’ll also look good. What exactly is your 10-12 UW and W GPA? And if you know your UC GPA, what is that as well? Any EC’s?

I think you have a pretty good chance, I got accepted with a 2020 super score (so actually 1900’s). And usually, when you’re the first from your family to attend, they’re extra lenient (though I think even if you weren’t the first you’re still a good shot). And I would suggest that you apply to a few ivies also if you have good extracurriculars, bc there’s a lot you can add to a college with the experiences you gained at such a young age. I mean give a shot at Harvard, you never know what happens AND the UC’s aren’t the most generous schools (though for 11k a year they might even give full). I wish you all the good luck!
