Also how bad does 3 W’s look…

@Druchman UC’s do not care about W’s at all.

I don’t think you’re allowed to finish prerequisites during the Summer of 2016, unless they tell you otherwise.

Hi guys,
im in Econ Management major, and im taking English class which is recommanded in this fall quarter.
My gpa is 3.75 right now,but im going to take courses at following quarters. Hopefully i could improve my gpa through this Fall, next winter and spring quarters.
im assuming that could i be accepted.

@poisontea The GPA that they consider is your cumulative GPA after the Fall. I don’t know if the winter quarter GPA is considered. If you want to get your GPA up, try to get a 4.0 this term, because that’s all that really matters.

They only consider GPA through fall. However if you have As in winter you could email the UCs. They may take them into consideration, but it won’t be factored into your GPA.

I’m a first year at a UC trying to transfer to UCSD. I’ll have 90 units by the end of my first year so I’ll have junior standing. Since I technically don’t have a GPA right now, will all they look at is my fall GPA? No winter or spring?

@TrueHobo Yes. Your fall GPA is taken into account for transfer. What major?

CC to UCSD
MAJOR: Psychology
IGETC: Finished aside from Foreign Language, but that’s only because I’m trying to decide whether to send my HS transcripts or to just take it.
Major Prep: Missing two. Calculus 1 and a computer programming requirement. Calc 1 will be done in the summer for Berk. I can squeeze the programming requirement in if UCSD is the only place I’m accepted to. Tho I doubt they allow prerequisites to be done over the summer.

GPA: 3.81
Essay: Not even started, lmao.
ECs: President of both Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Gamma Sigma honor socieities, student ambassador, currently seeking an internship in my major field, and volunteer with Hands On Central California.

I feel like I have a good shot with UCSD, but my college past is hella shady. However, I hear they love the rebound stories of students who failed in the past and then all of a sudden aced everything.

@aepaige Hey, I’m a Psych major also transferring to UCSD. I know I probably have around 3~ish prereqs missing as well, but that’s because I’ve been busy getting UCLA & Berkeley’s prereqs done. Have you also heard about UCSD not caring much about prereq classes either? I heard that UCSD values IGETC more, and if you have it done they let people in on a GPA-basis (this excludes their impacted majors)…

Speaking of prereqs,

I am applying under political science at most of the other campuses, but UCSD has a number of courses that are not offered at my institution. At UCSD, I plan to double major in communications or ethnic studies, which only require prereqs that must be taken at UCSD. Since there aren’t any impacted social science majors at UCSD, should I then not make political science my application major for UCSD and add it once accepted?

UCSD seems to care more about GPA/EC when it comes to non-engineering majors and it seems like the political science department is fairly lenient about prereqs, but I am not sure whether I want to open up the opportunity for that to be counted against me.

I may be wrong but if any pre-reqs are not completed at UCSD, I believe you enter as an undeclared. Someone might want to correct me if I’m wrong. Also, is Communications impacted? If so, you may not be able to add it as a double. I don’t know the UCSD policy - so be sure to check.

Engineering majors are the only majors with impacted status at UCSD. It definitely is odd in comparison to most UCs. Likewise, with the pre-major status. Only two majors at UCSD have pre-major status according to the main website and neither of them of relevant to my situation.

Which is why I raised the question because this is unusual for a UC. Granted, UCSD is known for science above all. Its just strange.

I see. So just those two majors.

It also is strange that their bio sciences aren’t considered selective (impacted) as they are at the other UCs --At least it doesn’t say it on assist.

I’ve always found UCSD confusing, what with those six colleges and the undeclared option. It definitely travels to the beat of its own drummer.

Hey, I just wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts on my chances so far…
CCC to UCSD
Major: Public Health
IGETC: Will be complete after this fall
Major Prep: missing one sociology course

CCC to UCI
Major: Public Health Sciences
IGETC: will complete this fall
Major Prep: all mandatory major prep will be done but not all additional courses approved for major - missing one anthropology, Calc I, O Chem series, and Biochem

UC GPA: 3.94, will most likely increase by end of fall
ECs: STEM Scholar, Bridges Scholar, public health internshp for 3 months, data entry job for 1 month, worked at a pizzeria oct 2014-jan 2015, will probably start working in a lab at CSU San Marcos before I submit my application

I’ve also heard that it’s not an end all if you have bad grades in the past as long as you show improvement

@goldencub
Thank u!
And i still have questions that how could i choose the six colleges in UCSD?
which one is more suitable for management science?

GPA: 3.16
Major: Religious Studies
IGETC: Im missing a foreign language. I have a question about this for anyone who can answer: I haven’t received a high school diploma or a GED, but in high school I did finish 2 years of foreign language with a B. Can I use those high school courses to satisfy the foreign language even though I didn’t graduate?
Essay: Working on them seems to be coming out alright.

Does anyone even apply for religious studies? I can’t seem to find anybody that does I feel like I’m going to be all alone loll.

@sbrapunzel Are you at Palomar or Mira Costa?
