UCSD FALL 2016 TRANSFER THREAD

I got an email saying the RSVP section for transfer triton day isn’t up yet but should be in April.

Thanks @sugarbabies3, i hope i get in with regents scholarship.

Have any Comm Majors heard anything? Just got my acceptance to UCSB yesterday but seems like everyone who has heard back is either Poli Sci or Economics…on almost every thread haha

Does anyone know if winter grades will affect admission chances? Will they make decisions based on winter grades?

@cyan96 As long as your final grades are in soon enough, then yes.

@Mike2011 I’m a Communications major and I haven’t heard back from UCSD or UCSB

Is there anyone else on here with U-link that signed the contract when the required gpa was a 3.0? I mean, if we have the contract, we’re good right…? I just got rejected admission to UCSB and am now freaking out and anxious about finding out my admission status for UCSD. Fuuuuuuu

@bren22baca Hey, did you sign the U-link contract when the required gpa was a 3.0?

What do you think of my chances?

Please Read the Whole Thing:

MAJOR: COMPUTER SCIENCE
ALTERNATIVE: MATH-COMPUTER SCIENCE

GPA PRIOR TO FALL SEMESTER/QUARTER: 3.92

TAG: YES

The TAG stated that I needed to get a C or greater in all courses taken.
I got a 2.68 for this current semester/quarter.
Overall I have higher than the 3.2 required overall GPA

I have completed IGETC

I took classes at Evergreen Valley College (Semester) and Foothill College (Quarter)

I received the following graded:

Evergreen Valley College: (no +/- grades)

Calculus 1: D (5 units)

Chemistry 1A (general): B (5 unit)

Foothill College:

Computer Science 1A–Intro to C++: B (5 units)

History 4C (1700 to the fall of the Berlin Wall): A+ (4 units)

I have decided to take the following (all at Evergreen Valley college):

Spring 2016 (upcoming starting Feb 1st):

Comp 75: intro to object oriented programming (4 units)
This is a similar class to the one I took at Foothill. I did not have a good understanding of the concepts.
I believe this course will be taught in JAVA.

Calculus 1: first calculus class (5 units)
I have to repeat this class I received a D in

Chemistry 1B (the last general chem class) (5 units)
This will complete my science GE requirement

Summer 2016:

Calculus 2: (last calculus class before multi-variable)

I will have over 90 quarter / 60 semester units.
I have completed the math and english transfer class.

I originally planned to take calc 2 this semester and multi-variable calculus during the summer. However, I did not pass Calc 1 to be able to follow this schedule. Also multi-variable calculus is not offered in the summer any way.

I submitted the academic update and explained the concepts I had trouble with in Calculus 1 and explained how I used the break to review and plan to pass calculus 1.

I also called the tag counselor and he explained I still have a chance and that each application in these type of situations will be looked at on a case by case basis at UC Davis.

I also applied to the following (all as mathematics major):
UC Riverside
UC San Diego(COMP SCI ALT MATH- COMP SCI)
UC Santa Barbara

I need Calc 1 and 2 in order to be allowed to be admitted and apply to SD and Riverside. I can take them in the summer according to them.

What do you think my chances are?

Does anyone have any experience in this type of situation, let me know?

Please and Thank You

The wait is killing me, I just wanna know already :frowning:

If decisions don’t come out today I’m just assuming they’re not coming out until April 15th or the 22nd and will only check on Friday’s. This is too stressful lol.

@zerglingdude how can you possibly have 3.92 if you got 2.68 this semester?
TAG is no longer available at UCSD, so I assume you tagged elsewhere? Whatever your tag gpa requirements are, you have to maintain that gpa for all terms after you apply. For example, if you need to have 3.2 for tag, and you got 2.68 this semester, this violates your tag contract, regardless of what your overall gpa is.
Without calc1, calc2, calc3 and linear algebra your chances for CS at UCSD are very slim. If your gpa is indeed 3.92, they might still accept you as undeclared (UCSD is known to favor high gpa students).

Also, UCs normally do not look at the courses taken over the summer before transfer, so whatever you planned for summer 2016, probably is not going to be applicable. I am a CS major too, and after reading last year’s ucsd thread I took a load of 18 units from 3 different community colleges this semester, just so that I can have all prerequisites completed by end of spring 2016.

@zerglingdude
I’m not familiar with TAG, so I can’t really
offer you a good chance assessment. In any case, I’m sure
you’re aware that CS is competitive.

I don’t want to sound like a dick, but why are you so set
on computer science/math? What kind of difficulties are you
having with Calc 1/OOP concepts? Do you enjoy software
development? Are you more intrigued by theoretical research?
I don’t know your background, so I can’t pass judgement. But if the intro classes
are really posing such a challenge–maybe this path isn’t right
for you? It’s only going to get more involved from here.

Also, please don’t call it JAVA. Just Java

Major: Molecular Biology/Microbiology
IGETC: Completed by Fall 2015
GPA: 3.53
Pre-req: Done by Spring
Can anyone chance me?

More decisions came out today. I got into the Computer Science Major at UCSD, my overall GPA is 3.74 and I have completion of IGETC and most of the required major prep excluding CSE 15L & CSE 21(which I might petition my discrete math course for this class though). The decision is updated in my portal however I have not received any emails from the campus. I haven’t heard back from any other UC’s (UCI, UCM, UCB, UCSB) though.

@ucsddyee381 I am also Computer Science major and my GPA is 3.75 and I missed CSE 12 and CSE 30. I’m very close to you but I see nothing in my portal. Anyway congratulations!

Has anyone else heard anything about their admission decision yesterday?

Nope!

@lenocturne

Maintain an overall minimum 3.4 GPA in all UC-transferable course work by the end of fall
2015 and maintain a minimum overall 3.4 GPA through the end of spring 2016;

Your information from what i know of about TAG is wrong. This is my requirement from my UCI TAG agreement, but i guess it is different based on the school you tagged to.

@KanaNishino How is it wrong? All I said was that you need to maintain the required gpa for all terms. UCs generally do not look at summer before transfer, so you need to maintain 3.4 for fall and spring, Now, if you got 2.68 in fall semester, it won’t matter what your overall gpa is by the end of spring, because you violated your tag contract by letting it drop below 3.4. My info is based on UCI tag requirements and a conversation with their transfer adviser.
