I just received an email saying I was elligible to apply for this program. Reading further into their brochures, I found the following:

"Application to this program is by invitation only.
All high school seniors admitted to UCSD as freshman undergraduates, and who meet the preliminary eligibility requirements of the medical scholars program, are invited to apply."

Does this mean I've been accepted already?

I got that and the Scholar's day thing.
I don't know if I am going to apply, I have nothing medical... So basically... It would just be like... well hey if you really want me to I can write up an essay...

braaap, it's not just that though. You need two letters of rec-- one from a science teacher. That's kind of a hassle if you don't already have one.

o no i know i had my ap physics teacher write me one for other schools
I just need to have my apush teacher tweak a few words in his (from politics to medicine :) ) and I'm golden

I think they just sent it out to all the people who have been
accepted and meet the requirements

though I can't see many people with the requirements not being accepted
you have to have applied first though

At the time of my application, I just missed the cutoff on both ACT and SAT, but a godsend of 35 on the dec ACT I guess made me elligible
another friend of mine got it too.
Does anyone know how many people apply

I mean... 12 accepted... wow

Edit
Annually, approximately 1,500 high school seniors who apply to UCSD meet the eligibility requirements, and about 300 of those students apply. From this applicant pool, 25 candidates are selected for interviews, and a maximum of 12 are accepted into the program.

Oh! Getting that email means we've been accepted at UCSD already?
I probably won't apply for the program though; I'm not that interested in anything medical-related. Good luck to everybody planning on applying though!

Does anyone have any information about what kind of students are accepted? Like, if you haven't had an internship or any real science experience outside the classroom, is it not worth the trouble to apply?

Last year, I heard from a friend that she knew someone who got accepted to this program. She was a val at Lynnbrook High, got into to Pomona and rejected from Stanford. That is all I know.

I also get invitation on USCD Medical scholar program and plan to apply. I think to get in is difficult [only 12 slot]... not sure how committee make decision.
I also get admitted on University of Pacific with 2+3 dental program - not sure which one to go yet....

ooo just got an email titled: "Medscholar interview notifications"
heart skipped a beat!
but it just says (from someone called Yvonne Coleman ycoleman@ucsd.edu...)

The Admissions Committee will make a final decision on Medical Scholar interviews no later than Thursday, March 26. All applicants to be interviewed will be notified by phone.
