UCSD Medical Scholars

anyone get the app for this program (CA residents only); i received it but the attachments are messed up; do any of you know what the application consists of? (i got 2 documents, the waiver (which works) and something else which doesn't work) i am assuming we need recs based on the wavier form

My daughter is still waiting for the invitation. She was invited to Scholar's day and they said the invitation was to be sent out on yesterday, Friday. When did you receive your e-mail?

Yea I got the invite yesterday- the waiver is just the confidentiality agreement. The second attachment (which works for me) tells the basics of the program- combined 8 years, MCAT not required but must maintain 3.5 cumulative GPA. Requirements are- a letter of intent, 400 word essay explaining how you became interested in and what your motivation is for medicine, and 2 letters of rec- 1 from science and 1 from humanities/social science.
Oh and scary part- they accept a MAXIMUM of 12 students each year. YIKES.
Hope that helped,
Hahaha

oh forgot one thing- a passport size photo of yourself.

So any news or updates about this program?

What are they expecting in the letter of intent? Just a, "I intend to apply to the Medical Scholars program?" Also, it says the essay can be turned in via e-mail. What is the e-mail address? Can the letter of intent, waiver, and photograph be e-mailed as well?

you should check the ucsd medical scholars website; they should have the e-mail address. also, on the sheet it says that the essay may be returned via e-mail, but it doesn't say anything about whether the other things can, so i'm not really sure.

I figure if they expect to receive all of this tomorrow, e-mail is the only way. I can send it by mail tomorrow, but they wouldn't receive it for a few days. I'm just going to send it to the somadmissions email address.

How about the letter of intent? Is it a one sentence letter, or something more? I pretty much state all of my intentions in the essay.

For the letter of intent, I just wrote more about why I want to go to UCSD for a med program rather than specifically why I want to do medicine. Dunno if that's what they wanted though----
