Liberals huh... Is the percentage of Conservatives at Davis higher then most UCs?<<

No. And the town of Davis is quite politically liberal. Many on the town council are Socialists. Much of Davis is a solar energy, recycling, bike path, organic granola kind of town.

kzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! wow i just browsed through this forum and found u...hahahha have u decided yet?!? tomorrow's friday!! anyways...as i said before...all those pros and cons...if u make me choose...i'd go to davis because the distance saves a lot of trouble. anyways i'll see how bad i failed my calc test tomorrow....

Still stuck.. anyone else? I was wondering what makes UC Davis better socially compared to UCSD exactly. Because it seems like Davis can be boring as well. HELP! Oh and which has a better Economics department?

No, they stay in town. They come from all over California, so it's not feasible for most to go home every weekend. If they access to the car they might go to the Bay area or up skiing on an occasional weekend.

What are the pros/cons of a college town vs. the resort thing of La Jolla?<<

College town = smaller town with activities and prices geared more toward college students.

Resort town = bigger town with activities and prices geared more toward rich tourists.

If by social life you mean lots of frats and parties, Im not really planning on getting really involved in that stuff anyways. If I reeely want Ill go over to sdsu lol.

If you mean football games and school spirit, to be honest I really don't care.

So if those are the two ideas of what makes a school better socially, then I guess I don't really care for the social life anyways. If I'm wrong someone please explain to me what is meant by social life.

Yes, social life does include parties and sporting events but it is more than that. It just a matter of what you want from your college experience. If you JUST want a fine education and nothing else maybe San Diego is your place. UCSD can have a great social scene, but you are going to have to look for it, at davis it finds you. But Social life is just basically your life outside acedemics. In college a full load is like 6-10 hours a class a week! You are going to have a lot of free time. Davis is a a city and campus focused around its students. Without the students in Davis, the town would not survive..the place is geared towards us. Everything from Jamba to Borders is just a short bike ride way. Now by social life I personally mean college experience...it's tough for a school like UCSD because the place is so isolated into its colleges. While Davis prides itself on community.
I.E- the free Intramural sports (even if your not into sports, you'll find yourself partaking in some sport be it interwater polo or the 24 hour Poker tournament) Our IM program is massive and student run.
- The Mondavi center...state of the art theatre...student discount tickets to musicals, operas, ballets, etc
- The plethora of clubs and activities...Davis is a community...you have an interest in anything...thier will be a club for you...and the atmosphere at Davis encourages students to join clubs and be active because everyone is doing something
- Stuff like going to the Recreation Pool (free to students) When it gets hot people hop on thier bikes and head to the Rec Pool..it's like reverting back to childhood everyone
- The ARC...free student ran state of the art recreation facility...from badminton to floor hockey..to indoor tracks...to over 4 basketball courts...this place is a palace...and the students love it
-You want your degree to have more prestige? Do you want your school to have more recognition? Do you think your school is the best and want to show the world that? Do you like free candy, t-shirts, pizza, and tubesocks? Likely chance your find yourself at sporting event ruiting on your UC Davis Aggies. Even if you don't think you care about sports...trust me you'll be missing out of a unique college experience

UCSD can have a great social scene, but you are going to have to look for it, at Davis it finds you. It's hard to really encapture what makes Davis such a great place for college experience. It's in the air, its the care free attitudes of the students, it's the feeling that everything seems student ran..it's the COMMUNITY. CHECK OUT THE VIDEO on this site...the Chancellor says it best http://www.ucdavis.edu/about/ ....then if still interested go to why.ucdavis.edu

actually just curious but does ucsd not have intramural sports. haha watching college football games is one thing. But intreamural bball is quite another. thanx for info goaggs

well i have been stuck also, i got into comp sci at both schools and i am at sixth in ucsd. i am 95% sure i will be going to davis, not only because of the free intramurals (my friend who goes to ucsd says you have to pay like 30 bucks or something for each IM) but because of the fact that davis is really geared toward the students. i stayed at ucsd for 3 days with a friend who lived in the warren apartments and i gotta hand it to ucsd, i love their living conditions. i much rather prefer suites and apartments compared to high rises like at davis. but when we headed to downtown la jolla, all i saw was old retired ppl walking around and it was filled with rich fancy restraraunts and expensive clothing shops, way out of budget for a college student. and even though i love the beach, i dont necessarily need to live near it (i am a san jose resident so i am used to no beach but i drive 45 minutes to santa cruz area). at davis i am going to miss the hills and landscape of san jose but i can always just head home or go to sf to get my fill. and even though ucsd is higher ranked in comp sci and they just built a new building for the comp sci department......davis is closer to the silicon valley, where everything tech happens and with the biggest internship program in the nation i am sure i will be able to find something over their during the summer.

well this post is getting long and i basically just talked myself into my choice and if you want me to elaborate more on my experiences and opinions go ahead and ask, but GL.......we are taking advantage of the deadline to the end....haha

How much more "prestigious" would a degree from UCSD be than one from Davis? Does going to a more pretigious school even matter that much in the future like jobwise or grad school-wise?

A DVM from Davis would the pinnicle in that field. Other then that, I suppose it would be good, heck any degree is good, but the "University of California" portion is a recognizable name nationwide.

from what i gather, ucsd program will give you a better chance in med school......but for other majors and grad school, good grades matter the most

and i just sent in my SIR to davis as well, ill see you guys there.......btw does anyone know when we have to complete all the financial aid forms by cuz there is no deadline listed on my form. also is a federal perkins loan subsidized?
