UCSD or UC Davis

I have to choose between UCSD and UC Davis
I got into the sixth college at UCSD
and the college of engineering at UC Davis
I’m planning to change my major to biotechnologies
Which college is better?
Davis is closer to home, but SD looks funner.
Help!

sd is the better school for what your looking for. if your considering fun level though, definatley go to ucdavis. the social life at ucsd is slim to none and its not fun at all.

ha, are you seriously going to try to compare san diego and a campus that's by the beach in a nice area to DAVIS?!?!?! Davis as a school is good; as a town, it is LAME.

UCSD is the best for bio/science related majors.

i have also been excepted to both school and had to decide between them. I also live close to davis and i got into bioengineering. i got into Thurgood Marshal college. After visiting SD at admit day april 9, i knew i wanted to go there instead of Davis. I did get into the engineering at Davis too but SD has a great location, small school environment with a big school education and most of all the best Bioengineering school in the nation ranked 2nd. So go to UCSD with me. Where you from? what high school?

sure sd as a town is nice but the school wasnt...i went to visit my friend there and we spent all night looking for a party and ended up going to a sdsu party. dont get me wrong ucsd is an excellent school but the social scene is terrible no matter what its location is

I went to UC Davis and I live near UCSD. Both have excellent biology and engineering programs, but I think that UCSD is rated a little bit stronger in bioengineering.

UC Davis will provide a better "college experience" if you are looking for the college town atmosphere and fun with your friends. UC Davis largely defines and dominates the town of Davis. San Diego, on the other hand, is the second largest city in California. So UCSD is comparatively speaking a drop in the bucket there. Which is "better" depends on your personal preference - Big City vs. Small College Town.

Other factors: Good skiing is closer at UC Davis. The weather is better in San Diego.

Hope this helps.

from concord,ca ygnacio valley high school

UCSD is a better ranked school, its the best UC after UCLA, and THE best in terms of science. UCSD is ranked # 35 while UCD is somewhere in the 40's. In addition, UCSD is one of the growing tigers of the UC system. Everyone there is very interested in getting all A's.

UCSD.

Sixth College mostly effects where you live on campus and your GEs, not the program strength. If you are going bioengineering and thinks like that UCSD FOR SURE! They are ranked #3 in the nation for Bioengineering. Plus La Jolla > Davis

I am trying to decide between these two schools also and Davis is a lot closer for me. It is nearing May and I still can't decide. How boring/socially dead is UCSD really? How much better is Davis than UCSD in the social factor anyway? Is it significant? ahhh

unless u have a fake id or are 21 at sd ur in bad shape. socially in terms of school not location, davis is better

Social Life at UCSD is dead...so it is not "funner"...your living your life on campus...the UCSD college does not provide a community with all the seperate colleges. UC Davis has community on our ID cards, in our student handbooks...in the friggin air! College is a 4 year journey, its more than just acedemics, it's the things outside of the classroom that you remember 20 years from now. College is the best time of your LIFE! So when looking at colleges, please don't just look at acedemics, look at the bigger picture! In my biased opionion...this is my take on "UCD vs UCSD"

I transferred most of this from an old post
Anyways, UC Davis prides itself in having a very strong student life. If you want to go to college for the sole purpose of grades and a degree, go to UCI or UCSD and study to your hearts content. But if you want to enjoy college life, toss the Frisbee on the lawn, cheer on the newly DI Aggie sports teams, or party it up on Russell Avenue (Frat row, where MTV filmed the show "Sorority Life"), WHILE still having an academic atmosphere of one the top schools in the nation...GO TO UCD. Go visit UCI on any weekend, the school is really a commuter school, it is deserted, everyone goes home. If you're a hardcore partier go to UCSB, where you can party till you drop. But the most well rounded UC in the system with the greatest student life is Davis.
WHY STUDENT LIFE AT DAVIS IS THE BEST
- DI sports with potential to grow. THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING TIME TO BE AT DAVIS as we're just going DI in sports. Everyone at UCD loves UCD, there is Aggie Pride everywhere, you just haven't heard of it because Davis hasn't had the chance to be big time. Next year we play Stanford in football and they are coming to Davis to play us in basketball. We're building a new football stadium, by the time an enrolling freshman is a senior, Davis athletics should be all over ESPN and the student crowds will easily rival Cal and LA.
- People at Davis are really friendly and really cool. The guys always open the doors for girls. If get in a bike accident, everyone stops and asks if your all right. It’s a friendliness not seen at other campuses, its Aggie Pride.
- Intramural Sports in Davis are huge and open for all skill levels. 16,000 students do IMs every year; from Dodgeball to Flag Football...the IMs are incredibly fun.
- Come on, what's more college esque than thousands of people biking to class everyday
- I could go on but this post is long enough...feel free to check my previous posts and other threads...a lot has been said by fellow Aggies on this topic
In the end, Davis is the last true college town left in California, it has that feel to it, and it has the vibe to it. It's an amazing school with amazing people...GO AGS!

And Check out these old posts about UCD vs UCSD

Depnds on what you make of it. I was captivated by UC Davis and the community. It reminded me of like Witchita or Kansas City. Just an island of development in the middle of a sea of farmland...I found that quaint...

Yeah, i would rather live in the rich city of la jolla.

When comparing Davis to small farm towns in the Midwest also remember its the population that makes the city. Though its a small town, the townies (non students) in the city are not "small town" folk. Davis is supposedly one of the smartest cities per capita in the nation. I'd rather have the liberal like minded friendly folks that live in Davis, over the rich atmosphere of La Jolla. But, that's just me...different strokes for different folks. Also, Davis is 15 minutes away from the metropolitan area known as Sacramento, so it's not like we're in the middle of nowhere. But yea, Davis is like it's own world, with bikes replacing cars, open spaces, and a friendly atmosphere.

Liberals huh... Is the percentage of Conservatives at Davis higher then most UCs?

It's a little higher but not much, when you look at the statics for the UC's Davis follows the mean pretty closely. I do know that Davis does have the largest College Republican club of the UC's.

A lot more things to do in San Diego.

Plus Tijuana is right across the border...

I'd go with UCSD - excellent Engineering school, rising reputation, great location.
