UCSD or UCI?

I am currently trying to decide between UCI or UCSD and would appreciate input/advice from others. I was admitted as a Psychology and Social Behavior Major at the school of Social Ecology for UCI and a Sociology Major at Muir for UCSD. I am a transfer so I have two years left and my plan is to attend law school after I finish my undergrad.

For me there are several factors at play. While I know that prestige and rank wise, UCSD is more desirable than UCI, it is my understanding that GPA will play a larger role in the law school admittance process. I have been told that I will likely end up with a higher GPA at the end of my undergrad if I attend UCI rather than UCSD. Although my only counter argument is that if my GPA were the same, SD would likely give me an advantage over UCI.

A non academic factor for me is my relationship of 5 years. My girlfriend will be attending UCLA this fall and we see each other on almost a daily basis currently. It is a pretty serious relationship and we plan on working it out either way. But if I go to SD over UCI, the distance will likely mean more problems and fights for our relationship thus affecting my schoolwork, etc.

Personally, I feel like I sacrifice less and take less risk with UCI and still gain the same benefits as SD, yet most places I have looked (online) have said to take SD over UCI.

So what I want to know is, given my situation, what would most do? and why?

thanks in advance.

Well it sounds like your mind is already made up. Go to UCI. Law schools want GPA and LSAT over anything else.

There’s a couple of lawyers at the law firm I work at that went to UCI then UCLA Law. One studied Poli Sci and the other did Criminology at UCI. In my situation, my boyfriend works in Fullerton and we live in West LA. If I didn’t get accepted to UCLA, I would have easily chosen UCI over UCSD so we could be closer to his job.

Your undergrad experience is what you make of it. Go to the school that has the major you want. You’ll get better grades if you enjoy what you’re doing.
