I can't decide which school to go to: UCSD or UCLA. I'm planning on majoring in life sciences: zoology/animal behavior. I plan on going to veterinary school after I graduate. I know UCSD has one of the top biology programs in the nation, but UCLA is a top rated university. Which school will give me a better education in terms of instruction? Which school will give me a better chance of getting into veterinary school?

Isn’t UC Davis the place to be for veterinary medicine in the UC system?

Because of my experience, I’m always against going to a school specifically because of its particular strength, ie biology/premed for UCSD, instead of attending the school that is overall better in most areas. My reason? You’re most likely 17 or 18 and you have YET to live a life for you to really understand what you really want to do. There is to much pressure in our culture to know what you want to do with your life coming out of such a young age(without much exposure to anything except what your environment might present to you). It’s not realistic. At least at UCLA, if you change your mind you can be confident that most all departments will be strong if not the best.

lie0806-This is the same advice I gave my kids. You are SO right and most kids change their major at least once and many twice.

UCLA over UCSD
