I thought they were really unique (UCSD thought otherwise...). I talked about bandaids and how that related to medical field aspiration, helping out with be the match, etc and being a coxswain (finding my voice).

Im really depressed right now at this point. Since i didnt get into ucsd I'm losing hope for la, usb, usc, stanford, etc....

Computer science is not an impacted major so it had nothing to do with that. Your major plays no role in your admissions. If the major was competitive and they though you should be at UCSD, they would just make you undeclared rather than rejecting you.

@hopelessstanford
I thought your stats were good enough to get in. If you really want to come here (or any of the other UCs) you can always write a letter of appeal. Typically they require you to bring forth COMPELLING NEW information on why you should be accepted but it wouldn’t hurt to try.

When i graduated (2009) plenty of people with my stats were getting admitted. Seems like this year they focused on high GPAs at the expense of test scores.

A little hurt because UCSD was a low match when I graduated, and I thought 3 years of great real-life work experience out of high school would work to my advantage. Guess not.

Best of luck for next year’s batch… Focus on that GPA!

uw gpa: 3.75
weighted uc: 4
act: 34
mathII subject test 760
half white half asian
100+ hrs of community service
summer job
good extra curriculars, a few leadership positions
great essays in my opinion

i have no idea why i got rejected…people with lower stats are getting in and i loved ucsd so this sucks. also i got into the honors program at uc irvine and riverside and got the chancellors reception invitation for ucsb so idk what’s going on with the ucsd admissions.

It doesn’t matter which major you applied for. It doesn’t change your chances of admission. I’m not trying to burst anybody’s bubble but high schoolers come in here and read things like this and then don’t apply to the major that they really want to in fear that they won’t get it which makes it harder for them to actually get into it once they get here.

Err
UW UC GPA: 3.80
Weighted: 4.25
SAT: 2140
Varsity tennis 4 yrs
Paid summer internship (published a scientific paper)
100 hrs of community service
TA and whatnot

I guess my SAT scores were just a little low.
Oh well, I wasn’t planning on going after getting in wustl (my 2nd choice)
Good luck to everyone else~

A lot of you guys have pretty high stats and seem really qualified, so I don’t know why you would be rejected…But then again, I’m not sure what goes on during the admissions process anyway for them to choose one student over another. My teacher said she doesn’t know what colleges expect from kids these days.

O wow, I had extremely similar stats to hellodav when I applied four years ago. Never knew how close to the cusp I was at the time, but I’ve realized over time that I probably wouldn’t have gotten in if I were a year or two younger…

Got rejected and laughed
UC GPA 3.84
SAT 1840
Theatre Major
I would have been surprised if I got in.
To be honest, SD was not really a school I cared about getting into
