UCSD (REV.) to UCB?

My info:

I'm a freshman currently enrolled as a cog. sci w/sp. in neuroscience major @ Revelle, UCSD, but I would like to transfer to UCB as a mol. bio. / neurobiology major. Revelle has many G.E. requirements, and luckily, I’ve managed to fulfill most of them or at least, I will be finishing them off this year. At ...the end of this year, I will only need to fulfill the physics requirement and the writing requirement. Revelle has a killer five -class writing series called Humanities.. I’m doing okay right now in the class (probably end with a B- or B which they say is typical), but I don't think it’s not what I need to maintain a competitive GPA if I want to transfer <- I will have a GPA 3.8 and greater

Firstly, I’m confused for my case if I want to transfer when must I apply? By the end of this year, I'll have 100 quarter units (40 AP credits) / 67 semester units. So, is it impossible to transfer to UCB with this requirement unfinished, and would there be no chance if waited until I finished this requirement and transferred in my junior year?

All advice is welcome, but of course, wouldn't mind hearing some real life experience from people who have transferred from UCSD to UCB ^_~"

jessuuss 40 ap units? Did you apply to UCB out of high school? To transfer you must apply before you hit their unit cap.

UCB’s policy on 4 year transfers to college of letters and science
“College of Letters and Science: A student who has accumulated more than 80 transferable semester units from a four-year institution is considered to have excess units and will not be admitted. A student who has completed 80 or fewer UC-transferable semester units at a four-year university and then transfers to a community college will not accrue excess units and will be considered for admission.”

You can’t pass this limit or its a garenteed no. It is possible to transfer without all prereqs done, but not impossible. My sister goes to UCSD (revelle also) and is doing UC visitor program with UCB. You actually should have applied this past term because if you want to go to berkeley and you apply next fall you need to stay bellow 13 semester units for the whole year, which is essentially taking a year off. Although I’m not sure how they would take into account the 40 AP units since those aren technically earned at a UC.

Actually, I just graduated from high school this past May. I applied to Berkeley (with a 3.75 UC GPA) and was rejected. At the time of my application, I didn’t have 40 AP units more like 8. I was under the impression I had to wait until I finished the prereqs (so I would have a college GPA) and at least a year before I could transfer…now I’m very sad. DX

we’ll don’t take my word for it, as I said, I wasn’t sure as to how such a large quantity of AP credits would be taken into account. You may be able to just choose not to use all of that credit (there’s nowhere where it says you MUST submit your AP credits). It’ll have a little redundancy repeating units but it will be worth it if UCB is where you really want to go. I would call and ask about it.

In fact I decided to look up the AP policy, and it says only 6 sections are accepted in the college of letters and science. So unless you’re fluent in like 5 languages and every math there is, I don’t think it’s even possible to satisfy 40 units worth with AP at berkeley.

oops, didnt mean to post that whole thing, just look to the section your major is in.

Since I plan on being going into molecular bio, I guess I would look under the College of Arts & Sciences. Thank you so much, you’ve been a big help! By any chance, would you know where to find the avg. GPA for my major admitted?

UC statfinder, just put it in google, but for your major (they only have it broken down to biological/biomedical sciences) for a UC to UCB transfer the average admitted person had a 3.67 in 08 and 3.69 in 09. Average GPA of applicant was 3.47/3.41.

AP units dont count towards the unit cap, do not fret

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/791286-uc-berkeley-transfer-unit-cap.html

UCB Mole.Bio is tough to keep good GPA. SD has very good reputation in biomedical-related sciences and if U have done most general requirements why not continue there, do well and go to grad school either in Cal or elsewhere? i know Cal has the name and all that but really the faculty support, reputation, resources, etc for MCB are not very much different. If U are transferring out of a cc then it’s a different thing. S has over 50 AP units from high school in Cal but is only managing with difficult grading–only just. It’s shows how tough the place is…think again.
