So you get guaranteed admission, but not into your school of choice? I'm an engineering student at a CC and if I don't get into the college of engineering then I sure as hell am not going to switch to something like "Gay and Lesbian Studies!" ... Not that there's anything wrong with that. So it's sort of a useless TAG right? Unless you don't care what your major is. Does anyone know when you find out which school you get into? Is it on your acceptance letter? Thanks everyone.

Yeah, you get it on your acceptance letter.

Apply for Warren, btw. They give their engineering majors a lot of slack as far as GE's and upper division courses go.

Thanks, but what is Warren? I thought the engineering school was Jacobs.

Oh it is, but it is not one of the basic 6 colleges. you need to first get INTO college and then into a sub college (Warren, Roosevelt, Marshall, etc etc).

You need to get into UCSD as an engineering major first. =)

OK thank you

Absolutely it is weird, you will have to take some extra uneeded courses. Anyway, is SD so hard that you have to do the TAG? and spending over 1 more extra quarter (or 1 Sem ) to do the extra works?

You are confused. You get admission to UCSD- you do not get admission into your MAJOR of choice if your major is IMPACTED.

There is only a handful of impacted majors. SOME of the engineering majors are impacted.

The schools in UCSD are like the six colleges......

TAG still gives you admission for your desired quarter - so it is good if you want to enter at some other time. But yes if you are an engineer you might not get into your major.

Could I use AP credit for some of these unneeded classes (history & political science)?

For the UCSD TAG program, how come it says you have to take lots of extra courses to complete it? Like it says to do 3 courses in a foreign language and a lot of other pointless classes. I thought we had to do the major requirements and the minimum eligiblity requirements to the UCs. How come TAG requires so many random classes?

TAG is guaranteed admission and it helps you meet GE. And it doesnt require a lot of random classes, most of them overlap with IGETC

My TAG did not say three courses in a foreign language.
