UCSD Tag

Does it make a difference if I apply normally or do TAG for UCSD? I read in the TAG description that getting the major you want "isn't guaranteed" under TAG. I have a 3.78 currently

You’re applying for Fall 2013 right? I read an article somewhere that UCSD will not do TAG anymore but I’m not 100% positive though. I TAGed with UCSD this past year. I went to UCSD for a campus tour and I believe that the admission officer said that if you don’t TAG, you would probably need at least 3.8 or so but with TAG, you only need 3.5 or something. I would say…TAG anyways. I mean what harm could it make? UCSD is definitely the hardest UC to get into without one. You would most likely get into other schools without one.

P.S. I had 3.76 and I got into UC Berkeley and they don’t do TAG :)

oh! I forgot to mention that I got into UCSD with TAG. I believe I got into my major as well.

^^ they’re ending tag after the fall of 2014 from what I understand. Getting into your major isn’t guaranteed through normal admission either since Ucsd admits campus wide rather than by major. Also from what I have been told after decisions were released in April the cut off for non tag students was 3.53. To me it doesn’t really make a difference except that .03 for the gpa but other than that te security of being guaranteed admission is all you get from tagging to ucsd

I have no idea then. I was telling you what I heard from the admissions officer that you need at least 3.8 to get in without TAG. I definitely think that UCSD is getting harder though. For one, I think they’re ending TAG to be more like UCLA and UCB if you know what I mean. IMO, I think you should TAG anyway. It doesn’t hurt to do it, unless you want to TAG with another school., then that’s another story.
