UCSD to UCB

Hi

I'm planning to transfer from UCSD to UC Berkeley and I had a few questions about the application process.

Is the GPA that they see by the time they make their decision the GPA at the time the application is submitted or the GPA after fall quarter is over? I know the application is due before fall quarter is over, so will that GPA have any influence?

I ask because my GPA is at a 3.27 right now, but after this quarter is over, I'm sure that it will be at a 3.41 if I ace all my classes. I realize that this isn't the strongest of all transfer GPAs, but I'm hoping that my extra curriculars + work experience + internship at a research institute + positive grade trend will help.

Also, my intended major is Environmental Science. Since this major isn't one of the most popular at cal, I was wondering if it would make it any easier to be accepted. My personal statement will reflect my special interest in this area of science, and I have had enough experience during high school/college to show that interest.

Lastly, will having spent two years at another UC award me any points at all? I read that UC's give preference to CCC students first, then allow admittance to other transfer students. When I compare my GPA to other students from CC colleges, my GPA is obviously lower and I attribute that fact to the difference in difficulty at each institution. I was wondering of the UC admissions office treated all GPA's similar or if they treated GPA's from other four year institutions differently.

Thank you for your help

I think they do take Fall 2007 grades into consideration because applicants have to update another form around jan-feb.

I don't know, environmental science seems somewhat competitive. Last year's acceptance rate was 22%.

Yes, UCs take into account upward grade trends. But it is never clear just how many points they will inflate your gpa by.

To answer your last question. Probably not. UC admission officers seem to require the same gpa from both UCs and community colleges. <a href="http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof07.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof07.htm</a></p>
