So it turns out that those all who were able to register for admit day a week before were in fact the ones that were going to be accepted. I was rejected on the 30th, but then received the transfer admit day email(or my mom did) congratulating her student on admission to UCSD. When she emailed them back about this crap, the woman replied in part of her emaiL:

"To clarify how I received your email address - I received email addresses from our Admissions office for those parents/family members that were RSVPed to attend Transfer Admit Day. It is my understanding that the only individuals to reach the Transfer Admit Day RSVP site were those students admitted."

"Any information you would be willing to share would be helpful so we ensure no one receives a message such as this by mistake. I am also going to pass along your information to our admissions office for further investigation."

Yea, so basically the transfer admit day leak was legit, this was just another blunder by the lovely admissions office.

Do you see the fault in your logic? How was the transfer admit day leak a legit means of figuring out if you got in, if YOU were able to RSVP and then proceeded to get rejected? All it shows is that being able to RSVP to attend Transfer Admit Day was not an indication of acceptance.

You only got the e-mail because you RSVP’ed, even though you were not accepted yet. I know you were ****ed off for receiving the e-mail in error, but it was only sent because of your impatience with receiving your acceptance/rejection letter. I’m sure UCSD didn’t expect students who did not receive official word yet, to actually sign up for the event. Hopefully in the future they fix their site to only allow admits to sign up for Transfer Admit Day.

“It is my understanding that the only individuals to reach the Transfer Admit Day RSVP site were those students admitted.” Obviously, her understanding was wrong.

boom15- that is unfortunate you weren’t admitted to UCSD. UCSD only accepted a mere 2200 transfer students this year… With thousands upon thousands of applications and being short staffed, miscommunication sometimes occurs. Furthermore, the transfer admit day was not a leak…

The May 8 transfer day was a welcome day that EVERYONE was welcome to attend. EVEN students who aren’t transferring this year… I know this because our transfer center had flyers up everywhere about this event…

I understand your frustration about not being admitted but I wouldn’t take this personal and spread inaccurate details around…

Best,

@shawn, I don’t think UCSD only accepted 2200 students. Usually that number is 6000+ (not that difficult at all to get in). Maybe you meant people who are actually going to enroll?

Boom was talking about the popular “transfer day leak” as a way for applicants to find out if they are admitted or not. It involved people trying to register for the transfer day and if they were able to, they believed it was a sign they were accepted. Many people on these forums spread this “leak” because those who get an error page/not able to sign up are usually the ones who got rejected.

@MidnightGolfer I was at transfer admit day and the chancellor talked about admitting only 1900 out of 14000 transfer applicants.

@boom15 For next year’s applicants sake I’m hope the leak’s still legit! Hahaha. Have they reversed their decision yet?

Are you sure it’s not a statistic like UCLA did with their freshman applicants? They basically stated that their acceptance rate was 8%, when in fact their 8% = Enrollment count/Total applicants (instead of Accepted Students/Total applicants).

You could be right, but I REALLY don’t see UCSD changing that much in one year.

Fall 2009 (ALL transfer applicants): 11,533 applicants. 6,637 admitted. 1,931 enrolled.

The leak was not legit. Boom15 was the case in point. He was rejected yet still able to RSVP to the transfer admit day before finding out. Don’t put out bad information that next years applicants will believe.

I was trying to say that me being able to register for admit day was a mistake on their part…but as the admissions office says it admits the students it allows to register, it APPEARS that those who registered, were accepted. I’ve yet to find anyone that was rejected and was able to register, except for me. But my case was a mistake.

@sunnyseas: i dont think anything will happen with my decision, i believe it was a mistake on their part to allow me to register for admit day. i did appeal though on circumstances completely unrelated to any of this, but that will likely be rejected since they rarely reverse decisions.

boom: end this now. you’re losing.

the admissions office lets you sign up for it if you got in. you didn’t. this is AFTER they send out decisions. whether or not it was a leak isn’t clear to me, seeing as how there are several signs of leaks everywhere, the fact remains that you were only supposed to be able to sign up for transfer admit day once you were admitted. not any time before.

i wasn’t able to sign up for admit day and i was rejected. they eventually reversed my decision since they messed up though. haha.

oh got it! thanks Midnightgolfer!

About the 2200 figure… I received an email from the John Muir college I thought that stated I was special because I was admitted ! haha I am not going to UCSD anyway so maybe didn’t read the fine details!

boom15 what was your major? I know UCSD is pretty competitive with their engineering major but besides that I thought they were pretty easy to get into…

They have the TAG agreement with admits anyone w/ a 3.0…

I did send an email for gauo or something like that. he emailed me a couple weeks ago. But, what I will also do is decline my admission. Maybe that will open the door for some appeal or ? :)

Done! Declined admission to UCSD.
