UCSD Transfers, Gather Here

i’m moving down there on june 21st!

^where are you moving to? I’m here waiting! and drinking with the local ucsd crowd! lol

BoryaF i was possibly thinking about attending UCSD during the Fall. How’s it like so far? Is the social scene any fun?

just got in to santa clara u. for business

it is okay. social scene exists. It’s not ucsb, but there’s still stuff to do. being 21 will help too.

hey guys, i’ve been away from CC for awhile now and just skimmed through this thread.
I’m a UCSD transfer student from the bay area about to finish my 2nd year here, so if you had any questions i’ll try to answer them :)

oh ya, it’s nice that ucsd offers transfer housing now, they didn’t have it when i transferred, and were in the process of starting to build it when i first got here.

I’m moving to Regents Road and I’m super excited! Just 2 more weeks! And I look forward to taking the train back to LA…I’ve never been on one before :]

I’m also moving into a complex on regents road… just had to put down $500 yesterday to secure an apartment that becomes available mid-July.

I’m choosing USC over UCSD!

^this is the ucsd transfer thread, not usc.

I’m on regents road too guys.

^ you think? relax.

I got into USC as well! haha but have chosen UCSD instead…for one SD is stronger in the sciences…plus, I’d rather save up for med school in the future instead of going to SC right now and taking out loans…so I’m hoping to be at SC in about 3 or 4 yrs!

There’s a reason why they say it’s the hottest school for science ;)

so wait regents road is that a street? how much are you paying for rent im trying to find a place right now im stressing any help would be most appreciated!

I’m personally paying around 600 and I’m getting my own bedroom…It’s a really nice place too so I’m getting a good deal for it…you should post your profile letting people know that you’re looking for a place (if you’re looking for a room to rent or any room mates)…if you’re looking to rent out a place by yourself, it’s going to be very expensive, but if you drive around that area you should see lots of signs posted up of availabilities.

Good luck!

i really need some advice about ucsd( i apologize ahead of time for grammer /spelling)

Here is my situation
I am currently an econ major i was going to go to Humboldt state next fall with my friend but this guy at my job convinced me it was a terrible idea.I know the school is prettty bad but i did not care untill he convinced me that it mattered.
I really want to go to UCSD and i had to take alot of classes this semester to make up for lost time.I plan on applying in July for winter quater. This semester though dropped my gpa to a 2.97.I am taking one more class this summer and if i get an A ill be above a 3.0 for the TAG.

question 1: can i still check the TAG on the uc application if i expect to get an A in the class

2:I have always loved science and am considering a change major or double major i know i will not be able to get into ucsd’s program are there any loopholes.Like for instance if i got striaght A’s my first year there would they allow me into the program for MAE.Or should i go to a differenct school that is less competative.Or should i go for a second BA.I also really love econ but regret my decision to not major in science i know i would have been more motivated to get better grades etceatera if i was taking more science and math classes.

3.I also was wondering because Ucsd is more expensve would i get more aid my efc is 6000

i really would appreciate any additional info about transfering to ucsd or if i should apply to Long beach or sjsu instead becuause i dont want to regret not doing sciecnce becuase i am really good at it especially physics and i know i will do very well in those classes because i took an AP physics calss in high school and did better on the tests than the valedictorians.

Remember to join our facebook group and meet some cool people. Hopefully we will have some get togethers when school starts.

Did all of you guys request high school transcripts be sent too? didn’t think it was necessary for transfers…

wondering the same thing… the page that asks for high school transcripts looks more like it’s in reference to freshmen admits because the only transcripts it says have not yet been received are my college ones. I’m probably going to send in the hs one just to be safe.

treverp,

I really suggest you talk to your counselor…these are questions that require some time, planning and experience. If I were you I would try to get answers from a better source --maybe in a different thread! :P

As for college, I believe you should go to a school where you know it will help you become more knowledgeable and well rounded. I applied to UCSD with TAG and I didn’t even consider state universities because I believe I’ll have more opportunities to grow at a UC, especially, UCSD. (yay fall 09!) You also want to surround yourself with people who are motivated, optimistic, not afraid to take risks, like being challenged and interested in what they study because eventually those are the people who are most likely to succeed in and outside of school.

If you can’t meet with a counselor before the application deadline I would check TAG on it anyway. If you qualify they’ll accept it, if you don’t they’ll just remove you from TAG. I don’t see much harm in this, but again please speak to your counselor.

It also seems like you have a interest in science, and is actually good at it. If that’s the case I would recommend sticking with it, with or without a loophole. It’s really rare to find students picking their major because they enjoy/love it. You could always minor in econ?

And if your EFC is $6000, that is how much they expect your parents help pay for tuition. I’m guessing UCSD will provide whatever the difference is. There is also calgrant.

good luck

HS transcripts:
I would send them, my community college asked for them too. I’ve collected all my transcripts already and will mail them out in a week.
