Hey guys,
I got accepted into UCSD for the Fall 2015. I applied for Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering as my major and Electrical Engineering as my alternative major. But when I got the acceptance, it stated that my major was undeclared so my guess is that since they are both impacted majors, I didn’t get into them because the competition was very high. So I was wondering if it is possible to still get into the Aerospace Engineering Program? And what should I put as my major on my SIR? Should I just leave it as undecided?
Thank you very much.
Students who would like to switch into Mechanical, Aerospace, or Environmental Engineering, must complete at least one year of academic study at UC San Diego. For more information, please contact MAE Student Affairs at sdesousa@ucsd.edu
Thinking about Switching to Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering?
Continuing students who wish to be considered must submit an application to the MAE department during the application period and must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Completion of at least one year/three quarters in residence at UCSD; (Freshmen can apply their Spring Quarter)
- Completion of all the following lower-division requirements for the requested major.
Math 20A-F (Math 20A-C Freshmen Only)
Physics 2A/B/BL/C/CL (Physics 2A/B/BL Freshmen Only) Chem 6A
MAE 8 - Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
Applications will be ranked by their UCSD GPA on the date of the application.
Admission is based on available space and meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.
Students should be aware that applications will be evaluated based on academic excellence.
Students who apply later than the final day of their sixth academic quarter at UCSD will not be considered.
Thank you very much Gumbymom, So I can submit my SIR as undeclared or I have to state that after the 1 or 2 years of doing the prerequisites that match the Aerospace Engineering course I might want to switch to the Aerospace Engineering Program?
You submit your SIR as undeclared. During orientation let your advisor know you plan to pursue Aerospace Engineering so you can start planning your courses for the year.
