UCSD US News Ranking

UCSD is ranked 35th, the same as last year. Is anybody else surprised that it didn't move up in the rankings?

i thought it would goes up by 2 or 3.
funny usc>ucla.

yeah haha to the usc>ucla
It’s like christmas for all my friends going to USC and armageddon for all my UCLA friends. On another note, I would consider UCSD’s rank pretty decent considering the school is only 50 years old and incidentally, younger than my parents. Also, anyone else feel like the top public schools are ranked a lot lower than they should be?

@askoh
I know public schools are not given enough credit. It’s really unfair.

Like Berkeley is ranked 22nd? Really now? Doesn’t seem right to me.

US news and Report is biased in favor of privates and east coast

Some parts of the methodology work against public universities. For example, a lot of points are given out for graduation rates and freshman retention. These are supposed to indicate the quality of the education, and they do to a certain degree, but retention can also be affected by the economic situation of students. If you get a second, check out the methodology explanation on the US News website and you will also see other examples of how the methodology can skew things.

I don’t think the rankings pay enough attention to the quality of the faculty. If you want to be an English major (or history for that matter), Berkeley and UCLA have two of the best depts in the country, but they are ranked below other universities whose faculty in those areas could not begin to compare with UCB and UCLA.

Hmm UCI is dropping =

Umm, Irvine jumped five spots.

But it’s still behind UC Davis and Santa Barbara :/

UC San Diego didn’t go up at all? Oh well, better than dropping.

Ranked 20 in up and coming. What was it last time?

Us News also factors in alumni donations to the rankings… aka privates get a lot of love.

***? No, it’s ahead of SB and Davis,

UCSD=35
UCSB and Davis are 39

@audioslavery
I meant UC IRVINE~ -_-

I’m shocked the distance between UCSD and UCSB/UCD is only 4 ranks now. =

Don’t the USNWR rankings also factor in student/faculty ratios, which also favor private schools?

I thought UCSD would move closer to LA, rather than UCD and UCSB moving closer to SD.
