@2Roadsdiverged Thanks for letting us know! I find it interesting that you also picked up that there seemed to be this notion of subtly wanting us to go (i.e. Triton day and etc). I do agree with you in that why would they go out and do so much if we were to be rejected. I also agree with a former poster that to invite us and give us the Triton experience and then proceed to deny us would seem rather cruel. Anyway I hope this speculation turns out to be actually true as I would love to go to UCSD!
2Roadsdiverged, AlexG2016 & baileeh1 - I went to last Thursday VIP tour - it does sound very promising. I think they did target SoCal candidates.
I also got the VIP tours invitation. Is it really worth skipping a day of school to drive down to San Diego? Do they keep track of the people who came? All of this seems promising I just do not want to pass up this opportunity.
IBGuy101 - Depends if its one of your top schools. We came late so we didn’t have the opportunity to sign in. However, they didn’t give us any signs that there is an urgency to do so. It makes me think they didn’t track it. Besides, you would need to RSVP to attend so they may track it that way. There was really no new insights given except for the sense that they are putting a great deal of effort to make you feel wanted and special.
@2Roadsdiverged, @AlexG2016, @baileeh1 & @IBGuy101 - With everything I’ve heard from this post, VIP tour, etc. I really think we will get an acceptance letter from UCSD!
That would be great! I hope so! @SD2020
@SD2020 I sure hope so my stats (3.6 UW 1910 SAT) are well below average for those who normally get in with 2300’s and 3.9+'s for computer science. I do belive that my personal statements were unique and EC’S showed my true passions. Best of luck to all of you!
What do you think made us different from the rest of the applicant pool? I agree my SAT isn’t low at all but definitely not the UCSD average. My gpa is though. Perhaps it was our essays. I spent months on my UC essay and it may have shown.
@IBGuy101 and @AlexG2016: It comes down to the holistic review. This gives them the flexibility to look beyond the GPAs and Stats. The candidates are more than just the numbers. They want to see what we are all about which hopefully our ECs and essays were able to capture. Besides, the UCs have limited budget and it’ll be financially unwise to spend their limited funds to spend for free lunches and swags at candidates they are not even interested.
@SD2020 wow… I never thought about the UC budget actually.
Is this just for the San Diego area?
@t19305 No. I’m from the Riverside County and I got one. It’s a 2 hour drive down to SD.
@IBGuy101 oh I was thinking more normal but thanks anyways!!
Does anyone know when UCSD will release their decision?
I’ve hear several speculations for March 11th but nothing concrete. @SD2020
Thanks @baileeh1! This waiting game is getting very old.
Come on, guys! We can do this. 2 weeks left for UCSD, and 3 weeks left for UCB and UCLA.
Is UCLA March 24 @IBGuy101?
@SD2020 Don’t believe me on this but I seriously think that it is March 18th since they usually do it on a Friday. It could be March 24 but I think UC Berkeley’s is before that. Just speculations.
@IBGuy101: The Berkeley thread mentioned 3/24 but I haven’t read anything on the UCLA thread. I like the March 18th date better.
