I've done a TAG with UCSD, so I'm guaranteed to get in (as long as I finish 1 course this spring, which I will). I also applied to UC Berkeley, just on the outside chance I get in. (My GPA isn't really where it needs to be to get in there.) So, I'm not really expecting UCB, but if I do get accepted to both, it creates a dilemma which I'm hoping people here can help me with.

If I go to UCSD, I'll be doing Management Science, and transferring somewhere for an MBA when I'm done.

Ideally, at UCB, I'll get into Operations Research & Management Science, (very similar curriculum), and also transfer somewhere for an MBA.

The dilemma comes about because I could end up in UCB, but not in the major I want. Economics would be fine. The third choice, though, is Applied Mathematics (focus in Operations Research.) Two problems with that: there's more hardcore math (my gpa might suffer accordingly) and the focus is less on business and more on number-crunching.

I am aware of the social status that a Cal degree affords. I think it probably affects getting a sweet job more than grad school, but I'm sure it affects both.

My question is this: Which is better for applying to a top-tier MBA program - Mgmt Sci from UCSD or Applied Math from UCB? Either with equal grades, or with a higher grade from UCSD? Also, what about on the resume? Is there a big difference between a UCB and UCSD undergrad degree, if the MBA is from a good place?
