UCSD vs UCD (w/ Regents)

I was admitted to UCSD (Muir College) as a major in Chemical Engineering (my first choice was Bioengineering) and admitted to UC Davis as a major in Biomedical Engineering with Regents Scholarship. I did not receive admission to UC Berkeley, and am currently waitlisted from UCLA.

Had I been admitted to all the schools I applied to, my first choice would have been UCLA, followed closely by UCSD (Bioengineering). Now that I was not accepted as a major in Bioengineering for UCSD, and accepted to UC Davis w/ Regents, I'm having a hard time deciding which school I should attend.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Two years ago my sister had problem to choose between UCD and UCSD.
She didn’t get Regents.
UCD was Biomedical Engineering (no credential, 1 hour from home)
UCSD was Bioengineering Engineering (credential, 2nd in Nation, 8 hours from home)
She choose UCSD.

Visit both schools and pick the one you really see yourself going to. I narrowly picked UCSD over UC Davis myself and both things were equal (I would have lived on campus/cost the same).

Visit both. Personally I’d probably take the Regents’ offer and go to Davis, but that’s also because I’m big into biking and really like Downtown Davis.

@AG3000 - you’re like my twin. UCD regents, UCSD admit, UCLA waitlist, UCB reject. I bet you have UCI CHP too. Also engineering major, but computer science. UCLA was my top choice too. I decided on UCSD, but for non-academic reasons… I’m from NorCal and always wanted to go to school in SoCal; also my sister is at UCSD and we’re very close. Don’t know what I’d do anymore if by some slim chance I’m admitted from the UCLA waitlist. I’m kinda use to the idea of going to UCSD.

Check which program is accredited @ UCD

VISIT the campuses!!! You need to feel the vibe. For those from out of town: What some people don’t understand about San Diego is that it is a nice town, but we get a lot of disappointed students because they think they can roll out of bed and hop into the water. UCSD is on a cliff mesa near the Ocean. You cannot easily walk there. It is extremely foggy along the coast in the and you might get some afternoon hours of sun. San Diego is an expensive town with limited transportation options. It is a strong school, though.

Thanks for all the feedback.

@thenewgurl I think there are quite a few people in our situation. Someone else on CC was in the same exact situation as me with the same majors and even was accepted to UCSD as a major in chemical engineering, which was also his alternate major (1st choice - BioE as well).

@seniorsfo Thanks for the link. Can you explain the importance of accreditation? Is it bad if my major/program isn’t accredited?

@aunt bea I live in SD and I’ve been around the UCSD campus so I know what you mean. I still need to visit Davis though.

@AG3000

Yes it is bad. You have to go to grad school, if you have pre-req. classes.

If you go to work - low pay

UCD tries to get ABET credit, but they can’t get it.

Go and check open campuses
UCD - 4/06
UCSD - 4/07

If you able to have 3.70 GPA after first year (chem 6A,B,C; phis 2A,B,C; and math 20B, C, D) you can try to change major @ UCSD, but it would be hard.

If you decided to go with UCD regents, change your major from Biomedical Engineering to any other ABET credited major.
As a regent you have priority with everything. CHANGE YOUR MAJOR

It is EXTREMELY HARD to transfer into the bioengineering major at UCSD. If you’re dead set on BME, go to UCD.
