UCSD vs. UCD?

Hello everyone,
I've been accepted at San Diego as Undeclared and at Davis for Biomedical Engineering. I plan on pursuing a career in medicine, so I plan on majoring in a biological science major if I decide to attend UCSD. I would prefer attending college in San Diego for multiple reasons, but I am extremely worried about not being able to major in a biological science major. Do you honestly think I will be able to transfer into a biological science major or would it be safer to attend Davis?
Thanks!

First, let me clarify that pre-meds can major in ANYTHING they want. In fact, there have been a plethora of successful Classics majors that have matriculated into medical school recently. You aren’t “obligated” to major in anything biology related.

With that in mind, UCSD IS filled with predominantly pre-meds. Be aware that any biological majors will be impacted or at least, quite filled in. If you want to declare a major in the biological sciences, it might be tricky, depending on which field, but not impossible.

If you will enjoy studying at UCSD more, go to UCSD. If you will enjoy Davis more, go to Davis. The major shouldn’t have a huge impact on you because you have the flexibility as a pre-med student.

Thanks for the reply!!

I have considered majoring in other science related majors but I was just wondering about my chances into getting in an impacted major.

So what is the path like? 1) Declare yourself as a freshman in a non-impacted major then attempt to transfer to impacted sophomore year… if denied then you stay in that major. Or… 2) Stay undeclared until you attempt to transfer to an impacted major… if not then declare non-impacted major.

Just another question… Am I able to meet with a counselor before starting freshman year to determine my classes?

No, but a counselor will send you a list of recommended classes. Also if you need any help with classes, we can help you out.
