So, I narrowed down my two colleges to UCSD and UCI. I both got into these schools with aerospace engineering, and at UCSD, I got into Warren college, which is a major plus. I’m going to visit both schools soon, and I got into UCSD’s overnight program that I’ll be attending later on to see if I’ll like it there. However, which school has the better aerospace program, and which school will provide me with better opportunities in getting into the aerospace job market once I graduate? That is my main concern right now. Cost shouldn’t be an issue at all either.
My dad–an aerospace engineer–told me a while back “Don’t go to UCI for aerospace engineering!” I don’t really remember his reasons why, but that’s how he feels on the issue.
On the other hand, I know someone who graduated from UCI with a degree in aerospace engineering. She then got into Caltech for her masters.
But I think UCI pales in comparison to UCSD. The only thing that might deter you from UCSD is the fact that many of its majors are impacted–this means that it could take you longer to graduate, and it would cost more. I am not sure if this is true about aerospace engineering, but I would encourage you to look into that.
The bottom line: for better chances in the job market, UCSD should probably be your top choice. But don’t take my word for it; go check both of the schools out for yourself!
UCSD >>> UCI , esp. with Warren college
Did you finally go to UCSD or UCI? Would you please share your stats and experience? Thanks.
