UCSD WAITLIST 2015

I got waitlisted at UCSD which is my dream school but got accepted into UCDavis. A lot of people I know got it the other way around (got accepted to SD and waitlisted at Davis). I would much rather have gotten it that way! I’m thankful for getting in to a college butttttt wow… I’ve been reading all these forums and idk some give me hope but most just make me feel like there’s no chance of getting in anymore!

Also, Davis is actually a good school for the major I’m going in to but I live in the Bay Area right now and I’m just so ready to move down to SoCal for a change!

Does anyone have any info about waitlist acceptances and what to write for my waitlist letter?! :-S

I’m in the exact situation as you :(. I heard that UCSD hasn’t accepted anyone from their waitlist in 2 years, but I’m hoping that people like us will have a chance this year! Best of luck

None of the thousands of students offered positions on UCSD’s wait list over the past two years were admitted–but this year may be different, as campuses that expected to increase enrollment are waitlisting more students while they wait to see if sufficient funding materializes to accommodate them.

UC President Napolitano said, "Absent additional funding, UC is not in a financial position to absorb more California students beyond those we currently serve…We will do all we can to mitigate this decision – through wait lists and deferred enrollment – and will work to make up any shortfall of new California students upon receiving increased funding in future years.”

I’m in the same situation as you. I got wait-listed here and accepted to Davis. Honestly, I thought I would get flat out rejected here because my stats aren’t that great.
SAT: 1840
UC GPA: 4.2
SAT 2 (molecular bio): 700
10 AP classes
Major: Biology
had a lot of leadership and extra curriculars though.
-whats interesting is it seems like a lot of people are getting wait-listed. Funny thing is I know of 5 people who got wait-listed from SD just from my high school alone! Now, I’m not sure if the increase in waitlists is a good or bad thing. What do you guys think?

The Opt-In Form to accept your wait-list spot is very structured and allows very little space for your statement. Be short and sweet and VERY passionate about why you want to attend. Be aware that you can opt-in to the waitlist AND, file an appeal at the same time. My son was WL’d in 2013 and filed an appeal at the same time he opted in to the WL. He used a medical condition as the basis for his appeal-he had not previously discussed it and briefly described how he was able to maintain high stats while struggling with his condition. He was accepted 10 days later on his appeal.

@takeitallin‌ Where do we find the appeal form? Or how do we appeal?

Hey everyone, I got wait listed at UCSD and Davis, which really surprised me because I am an early graduate, took every AP class at my school, 4.71 GPA, speak 3 languages, and have a ton of extra-curriculars. I also received supplemental review for both Berkeley AND UCLA so I was shocked when I found out about Davis and UCSD. For everyone in a similar situation, don’t lose hope! Read this admissions article: http://askmssun.livejournal.com/67243.html let me know what you guys think!

i also got waitlisted from ucsd and davis like @Dchera11‌ and just found out today that I have been waitlisted at ucsb and cal poly slo as well lol. im not losing hope however! does anyone have any advice on how to better your chances of getting off any one of these waitlists? thanks and good luck too all

Hey @souperr‌ I’m really sorry to hear about that, but what I heard really helps is to write about that school being your top choice and how you’ve always wanted to go there. Make it somewhat personal, and that will really look good to admissions counselors.

I believe this may be the link: https://students.ucsd.edu/_my_application/_files/admitfaqnfrsnrt.pdf . I can’t access it without a user ID so I’m not sure. I remember it was very difficult to find the on-line form. If you can’t find it call Admissions. The form is the only way they will review an appeal.

Also, if you get accepted from the WL, you will have to wait for several months before you will hear anything. If you are accepted on an appeal, you will hear very quickly- within a couple of weeks. My son did not get any e-mail or notification when he was accepted on his appeal. He just happened to look at his portal one day and it said he was accepted.

Hi, I was wait-listed and I just had a few questions about the process. I am thinking about appealing as well!

Are we allowed to send letters to admissions? Or is the presentation of new non academic information only for appeals? Also, if and when we call the admissions officer, will they be able to tell us where exactly we are on the waitlist (priority-wise)? And what about majors? Are all the accepted wl-ed people gonna be accepted as undeclared?

Sorry for all the questions, but UCSD doesn’t seem to have alot of information on its website… Thanks for all the help!!

To be considered from the WL, you can only opt in using the form they give you the link to. Any letters you submit for either WL or an appeal will not be reviewed. The on-line form for appealing is also a very short form with very limited space for discussion (I think it only allows around 200 words). The link in post #9 will take you to a sign-in page and from there you should be able to access the WL and appeal forms. No additional submittal are allowed.

Waitlisted, first and second chouce majors were engineering do you think I am waitlisted for engineering or undeclared?

Can someone explain the points thing that was being discussed?

UCSD no longer uses the points system- hasn[t for a couple of years. They will not tell you where you sit on the waitlist if you call them.

Waitlisted from UCSD. I got accepted at UCI and UCD. I don’t know what to do.
My GPA is 3.57 and my major is Japanese. Anybody call to UCSD already?

Did anyone hear back from the waitlist yet?

I was accepted to UCSD and wont be attending (going to UCD instead for CS). I hope that opens up a spot, potentially! Good luck guys.

Why hasn’t UCSD admitted anyone off the waitlist for 2 years now? Do ALL the people who gets accepted, actually enroll?
