I feel like its going to be this friday or next monday because they get 3 days to accept or reject. The good thing is many are rejecting their waitlist offer, so that gives me an ounce of hope. Honestly did not see that coming so quickly ucsd. I didn’t expect them to release it the day after sirs were due lol.
gtims123 where have you SIR’d in the mean time (direct CS somewhere)? I am guessing plenty people decided not to come to SD knowing how hard it is to get into CS that they now have to admit more people whom they know probably are really in for CS than any pretentious 2nd choice…
@Suirad Don’t know much about UMCP but it sounds like a good choice. I’m taking a similar route (A&M) with the whole D1 sports, college experience vibe, as well as a solid education. I think you won’t regret attending UM. Also, terrapins is such a cool and unique mascot. I’m jealous!

@Just4Years I SIRed at UCSC for Comp Sci. Turned down UCSB for math because it’s damn hard to transfer to CS. I But now I’m seriously considering going to SD for Cog Sci. Do you know how hard it is to transfer? I really wish I got in for CS…
@gtims123 Congrats on getting accepted! Buuuuut if you thought UCSB CS would be too hard to get into, you’re probably not getting in at UCSD. You need the highest possible GPA in 4 CS courses (CSE 8B or CSE 11, CSE 12, CSE 15L, and CSE 20 or MATH 15A). These aren’t easy courses, and even one A- might screw you depending on the quarter (this quarter, a 3.98 wasn’t enough to get in). I’m not trying to scare you or anything, just painting a realistic picture. That said, UCSD CogSci is the birthplace of the discipline and the top department for it in the world. If you choose the BS (not the BA), you can specialize in Computation. Then, you’d be able to credit as many as 6 CS classes towards your degree (full list at http://www.cogsci.ucsd.edu/media/uploads/undergrad/16-17_specializations.pdf).
@gtims123 There’s also a rumored Data Science major which is currently being considered by the Academic Senate. If formed, it might be an unimpacted major in its own department or as a joint effort between CS, CogSci, and Math. Basically, don’t count UCSD out. If you really like the school, consider your options.
DS is probably under CS so you still need to 4.0 in. Bummer. Getting into CS directly for the top 6 UCs has become really hard if your GPA is just a bit sub-par. Too many people want to do CS for we all know why, and plus many spots are given to OOS and INT kids many of whom have less stellar stats for you know why too. Bad blood everywhere! You have to think if coming to SD there’s real good chance you really do CogSci vs sure thing in UCSC. Tough decision - almost wish you did not get off WL probably.
I’m also hoping to get off the wait list! Am really nervous.

@DoctorP you seem to know your stuff very well. Did you major in Cog Sci at SD? I’m talking to a guy on reddit who says I can minor in CS and take CS/CSE courses.
maybe the portals will be broken at 12 tonight if the next wave is coming out tomorrow. the portal was broken the night before the first wave was released, i believe. I just don’t want to keep getting my hopes up for this school anymore because i’m always left disappointed.
Literally, I just checked, and the portals are down, so perhaps???
