UCSD Waitlist Thread [Class of 2020]

I actually kind of like that I got into Revelle. I feel like the liberal arts climate is something I really wanted, even though i got caught up into the whole “more general education requirements schpeel.” Actually, ERC now has the most gen eds, as Revelle just decreased theirs

Haha Jack I see you on the UCSD page lol WOOOO

Do you guys think that they’re gonna send out another wave or was that the last one?

@iaafil hmm hard to say; the trend in the past years is that they finish sending decisions around mid may (next week or so), but it’s different every year…

I think there will be one more wave. Especially if some people are still getting into their first choice major

@poteto I haven’t seen any on here. I’m waiting on MechE/AeroE…

My first choice is human biology and second choice is general biology. Hoping I could still get in… :frowning: I haven’t seen anyone get accepted with the same majors…

If you get in, you will probably be undeclared @iaafil @Core2Q Both of your major choices are capped; thus, they are extremely competitive to get into (as someone legitimately has to change majors outside of engineering or bio for someone else to get in). You never know though! Just keep waiting and I hope you guys get what you want :slight_smile:

@jackisawesome I won’t be going if I get in undeclared and they probably expect that. Probably the reason like 0 engineering majors have been accepted. They have to keep the yield high.

Still waiting… Anyone in Econ or business?

@Core2Q but they claim they don’t look at your major for admissions and admit you to the school first… idk if I believe it though because no engineers have gotten in

@alicakez I never undrstood how that makes sense when they literally tell you that there are capped majors and somehow engineering majors always have the highest average stats.

@jjuliak I applied for Econ and got accepted off the waitlist yesterday!! But I got undeclared and into my 5th choice college (Revelle) so I’m most likely not going!! I will be visiting this weekend though!

(There’s like a 99% chance that I’m going to UCSB so go Gauchos!!)

@neta427 hey revelle’s awesome

wait @DoctorP can you tell me why you think it is “awesome?” I really want UCSD, but am a little bit taken aback by Revelle. if you could provide any information (besides the basics found all over the internet) such as your experience in the dorms, social life, rigor, and internship opportunities, I would be so thankful!!

@jackisawesome Most of what you’ll see on the internet about Revelle is pretty outdated, the residential section’s been completely remodeled since 2009 and has (in my opinion) the second prettiest campus of all the colleges now. I lived in the worse dorms (the Fleets) but it was still a great experience. The way the college is laid out is really conducive to socializing: you’re inevitably going to run into a ton of people you know in front of 64° and the market each day and there’s always something fun going on, whether it’s a kickback in someone’s suite, people playing frisbee in the plaza or all of Argo having a midnight jam session on the railings facing the courtyard (this happened twice my freshman year). The new dining hall is beautiful with pretty good food including street tacos in the evenings, and the apartments have awesome ocean views and a rooftop garden that’s perfect for watching sunsets. Have you had the chance to visit?
In terms of rigor, I can’t sugarcoat it: you’re going to get dicked by HUM. It’s painfully challenging and there’s a ton of reading. On the bright side, as long as you make an effort to participate or work with your TA your grade will reflect that, and it really does broaden your understanding of Western culture and literature. Plus, if it gets too hard you can take two HUMs online or at community college. The rest of the GEs aren’t too bad if you’re a science major or have a lot of AP credits coming in.
Overall, UCSD has a lot of internship opportunities especially for psych and other bio-related majors. My friend got a job in a psych lab her first week on campus, as long as you’re the kind of person who puts yourself out there you’ll find success. (In response to your post on that other thread) The same applies to UCSD’s social life: the parties aren’t in-your-face like they are at UCSB, but if you’re a people person who’s just willing to talk to folks you’ll have no trouble making friends, finding parties and having a blast. Worst case, rush a fraternity (they’re pretty lowkey and chill compared to other schools’, and a good way to make friends with similar/outgoing personalities). Good luck with your final choice! Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

You honestly have made my day. I don’t think I have ever encountered such a thoughtful response! After much thought (and reading this reply) I have SIRed to UCSD! I am extremely excited about being triton, whether it be in Revelle, Muir, Marshall, or wherever! This school has been my dream for such a long time, and now I can actually accomplish all that I aim to do. Lots of thanks @DoctorP

@jackisawesome YAY!!! We’ve been here since the very beginning and I’m so glad you’ve chosen UCSD. so proud of us :DDD (for students on the waitlist for years to come, this is prime proof that miracles come true when you least expect it ;p. i had no idea that this big of a wave would come out this late haha)

Any of your guys visiting the campus soon? :slight_smile: I just submitted my SIR Thursday and I’m going tomorrow to visit my college and such since I didn’t do that the last time I visited UCSD.

@raininthesummer I’m visiting next week! I only live 20 min away from UCSD so I might just save on $8 parking each time I go there and just park at whole foods haha. its like a 20 min walk tho
