@Honcho One of many possibilities. Proves nothing. If you have hard evidence then ok but you are merely speculating.
@Bankersheim Of course there is no real validity to my words. Heck, there isn’t any validity to what admissions representatives say either. I suffered the consequences though, so I plan on believing these “facts”.
I was viewing last year’s waitlist thread and everyone there said it was ranked? I noticed that those with higher stats got off the waitlist early may and those with lower stats did not get a response even after june 1st. I feel like there is a rank but they aren’t going to say flat out there’s a ranking, otherwise people will bombard them and ask their place on their waitlist. Crossing my fingers for you, ucsd. I hope a good amount of spots open out for us fellow waitlisters
what the college says is that they actually go over and reevaluate all the applications of the people who have opted in to be on their wait list and offer acceptance to the one they think are most qualified. So it’s literally the whole review process all over again in about a month. So I think @sarale is correct in assuming that there must be some sort or ranking, there must be some applicants they want more than others.
But I wish everyone the best of luck and hope you guys get in where you want to go!
what are we even supposed to write about?
also is it an essay? or like 2-3 paragraphs? 150-200 words is so short lol.
Hey CC,

- SAT I: 1430 (yeah, I know)
- GPA: (UC weighted GPA): 4.45 (UC Unweighted): 3.89

Work: Currently working at Taco Bell (had the job since I was 16)
I think they set the priority based on our stats.
Were any of you waitlisted at other UC? I got waitllisted at UCD UCLA Cal and UCSd
does ucsd consider senior grades when deciding who to take off the waitlist?
@jfj6972 Yes, I was waitlisted at UC Davis for Biomedical Engineering
@carpediem12 I know UC Davis considers senior grades, not sure about UCSD
Waitlisted bizecon
UC GPA: 4.0
Unweighted: 3.91 (not a lot of AP/honors lol)
Great essays
Tons (I mean tons) of volunteering
4 year varsity golf, 1 year captain
Ec’s were few and far between, but my golfing and volunteering were focused, meaningful, and very time consuming, so I think that made up for them
Also waitlisted at UCSB and UCI, which is kind of weird to me. They’re all great schools but I thought SD was on a a higher “tier,” at least compared to Irvine. Like if I got waitlisted at Irvine I would’ve expected a flat out rejection from SD. But looking at everyone’s stats (which seem pretty high compared to some people I’ve seen who got accepted), this whole process seems pretty random.
Also, have there been any OOS waitlisters? For any of the UCS? I have a theory but I’m hoping it’s wrong.
Because I know this will help out class of 2021 and beyond, I’d figure I’d post my stats.
Decision: Waitlisted to Pharmacological Chemistry (not impacted)
Unweighted UC:3.92
UC Gpa: 4.25 (only got 2 b’s on my transcript holla but did not challenge myself)
Sat:1770 (i took it in dec 2015-the last possible date you could take it) aka don’t do what i did and 0 classes and 0 books. forever regretting not taking classes. This is like my raw no studying score LOL.
Decent ec’s and volunteering
First Generation Student
In state and in San Diego
Competitive Public High School (I’m not even top 10%, I’m top 15%)
Amazing Essays that I wrote in a good week, but they made me and others cry while reading them.
Accepted to : SDSU, SJSU, UCI, UCD, CSULB, CSUSM. (some had regents/scholarships but too far)
Waitlisted:SD
Rejected to: UCB
Comments: I was pretty sad when people with lower stats got into my major but if I learned anything this year, college decisions have been very holistic. It truly depends on who reads your app. I will stand by that. You can be accepted to UCB, but flat out rejected to ucsd. For me at least, the school of my undergrad school doesn’t matter as much to me, as much as the pharmacy school I want to attend. (UCSD PLEASE DON’T REJECT ME TWICE LOL) Might just go to a state uni to save money so I won’t be TOO in debt before pharmacy school.
Since I got waitlisted as well, can I accept non UCs school’s offer of admission, or I need to accept other UCs offer of admission then rescind the SIR(if accepted from waitlist) ?
@torque123 you can submit your SIR to any school you want. The odds are you won’t get your deposit back though, so keep that in mind. One school I applied to is like $750, so that’s making my decision sooo much harder lol. The waitlist sucks hahaha
Turned in my waitlist essay and opted in…
Don’t have much hope though, but hopefully senior year GPA counts for something…
@Core2Q Was there a spot to put in senior year GPA on the waitlist form in the portal, or did you mention it in your essay?
@honcho you were suppose to mention it in your essay. there is not a place to put it in on the portal
@honcho There isn’t a place for it but I am certain it is used to determine admissions off of the wait list. I mentioned it because mine is pretty strong (4.5). But that’s up to you.
@Core2Q I think I have a 4.4 so I guess it’d be worth mentioning. Do you just casually mention it at the end?
