Almost done with writing my waitlist statement and everytime I start up again, I am overcome with sadness, anxiety, and excitement about my decision for UCSD. So happy I wasn’t denied to my dream school, but at the same time, I am horrified at the idea that I might not be accepted off the waitlist. I hope my stats and statement are enough to carry me through
Anyone else feeling the same way?
Also, if anyone is curious, here are my other decisions:
Accepted: Ohio State University
University of Michigan
University of Minnesota
Boston University
University of Wisconsin
University of Washington Honors
UC Davis
UCSB Honors
Waitlisted: UCSD
UCI
Denied: UCLA
UC Berkeley
UNC (Chapel Hill) EA
Cal Poly SLO (pretty sure for yield protection)
Cornell
I don’t know if we should mention our senior year grades xD I mean it doesn’t follow the prompt and kind of goes against their policy of no new info requests idk though tbh
I know this has probably been asked a million times, and I know website says unranked, but I’ve heard people say the waitlist is first come first serve…is this true?
The website says that people aren’t ranked to be accepted off the waitlist? @nitrousoxide97 I am pretty sure that they are, because I doubt they would go solely off the waitlist statement to determine undergraduate placement…
yeah i feel like senior grades are questionable to put on our statement because i feel like if they wanted to know, they would include a portion to put it in?? idk maybe I’m biased because i only had a 4.2 lol/ I’m pretty sure there’s a ranking because if statements are due april 15, and last year they released waitlist decisions around may 6. That gives them only three weeks to review our app again.
I feel like the statements are there so if there is ever a case where they are deciding between two students, they will pick based on the essay showing the most love/character/desire/etc
@nitrousoxide97
I think it is unranked in the sense that there is no set #1, #2, #3,… order. But, they will probably review the applications once again (similar to the first time) and take the most qualified applicants if there are openings (using the essay as a tie-breaker).
@jackisawesome UCSD admissions said that there are extra questionnaires after the waitlist statement for the UCSD waitlist. Is there any truth to this (asking because you said you submitted already)?
I called the admissions office to ask them about the ranking. They kept saying it wasn’t, but they were also super vague about it. However, the person i talked to told me that they didn’t want to read anything about academics, and that all the info needed they already had. They just want to know Why UCSD? .
@tiredaf16 The admissions officers are a bunch of lazy representatives (at least, most of them are). Don’t take what they say for granted.
I believe that there will obviously be a ranking system, as in one person will be more favorable than the other. I think that they are not going to release ranking information though.
@jackisawesome I truly hope you get your wish. I know how hard you worked for to achieve those stats and the impressive list of acceptances you have already received. Fingers crossed for you
There is no issue with sending your waitlist essay later as opposed to earlier correct? I plan on sending mine tomorrow (adding the finishing touches today).
Basically, those who submit earlier don’t necessarily have a better chance of admission, correct?
^ @honcho there is a chance a college might gauge level of interest by the time you send it in. I mean, they probably know the exact time you sent it in and can check for that. I sent mines in the day after I got waitlisted to be safe
oh lord i should probably send mine in soon. I tried to write it with a different style than my essays considering they weren’t successful. I know a lot of people from my school who are not opting in to ucsd waitlist and they have already committed to a school, so hopefully it gives us a chance. Truly hope I get in (and everyone else on this form ofc), ucsd has been my dream school since 8th grade yikes. Definitely grateful ucsd has given me a second chance instead of straight out rejecting me tho
@thejappster@sarale There is no truth to what thejappster said, it’s just speculation. The same logic could go otherwise, “Taking longer on your waitlist response could show how much work you’re putting into your waitlist essay, and shows that you really want to go to UCSD”. The admissions officers said that the time in which you submit does not affect admission chances, but again, there is no truth to what they said either.
