UCSD Waitlisted Undeclared

I just wanna know what’s the percentage of individuals that were admitted from being waitlisted. Also, people that got accepted for being undeclared

No waitlist stats from 2018 or 2016. Below is the 2017 waitlist stats and no information on which majors/undeclared that were admitted. I suggest you look through last year’s waitlist threads but if it is a capped major you are waiting on, then chances are higher in getting in as Undeclared.

of applicants waitlisted: 9,465

of applicants accepting waitlist: 5,998

of applicants admitted off the waitlist: 967

why is it higher that capped major get in than undeclared? is it cuz most of my peers are undeclared

@Gumbymom

Capped majors means limited space so the applicants that get a direct admit will be filling those spots by May 1. Since UCSD admits into the University first and then into the major, most likely the applicants on the waitlist for these majors will be admitted as Undeclared. There are always exceptions but in the past years, CS/Engineering majors especially got in as Undeclared.

how about for the people that got waitlisted for major that are not cap?

@Gumbymom

If the major is not capped, then there is a better chance of getting in with the intended major.

@Gumbymom I put undeclared as my major but I put Japanese as my alternate major is there a possibility I still get admitted?

Yes, there is a possibility that you would be admitted with either major.

@gumbymom but from what I gathered the possibility is really slim. Right?

Since only 2017 stats are available and last year hardly anyone posted their acceptance off the waitlist, it could the same but it all depends upon how many SIR by May 1. My advice is assume the waitlist is a soft rejection and move on.

@Gumbymom also are we competing with the transfer student for the waitlist spots?

No, you are not competing with transfers for the waitlist spots.

@Gumbymom so if I go to community college first then transfer to UC for engineering as my major… do I still need to do the 7-course pattern prior to the required subject that I must take for engineering? or I can skip the 7 courses GE

You do not need to complete IGETC for Engineering transfers but you are still required to complete some of the GE’s for transfer. Assist.org should list all required courses needed for your major to transfer.

UCSD required courses for each major:

**Transfer students who choose capped engineering major programs as their first-choice major on their UC application are required to complete the minimum lower-division major preparation courses prior to transferring. Many of the following courses are required to be taken for a letter grade for all engineering transfer students in their major:

Linear Algebra (Math 18)
Calculus I—for Science and Engineering (Math 20A)
Calculus II—for Science and Engineering (Math 20B)
Calculus and Analytic Geometry (Math 20C)
Differential Equations (Math 20D)
Complete calculus-based physics series with lab experience (Physics 2A-B-C)
Chemistry 6A (except computer science and computer engineering majors)
Note: A total of ten quarter-units of general chemistry (including laboratory) will be recommended for students applying to all majors offered by the Department of Bioengineering.
Highest level of introductory computer programming language course offerings at the community college*
*Refer to the UC San Diego General Catalog to select major prerequisite recommendations for computer language courses.

Please note that exact transfer admission requirements may vary by major and department. For exact eligibility criteria, please reference the respective department’s catalog listing or the California community college articulation agreement listed on www.assist.org.**

I would post any specific transfer questions on the UC transfer forum. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/
