UCSD workload / studying ?

Hello I’m debating between UCSD music major and UCSB literature major.
I was one of the lucky ones who got into UCSD with lower SAT/ GPA but with good essay and music supplement.
I plan to major music composition or technology at UCSD but I’m worried about the competition / workload.
I took 7 AP’s throughout high school but I don’t know if I will be prepared for the GE’s and the studying overall? My parents didn’t go to college so I have no idea what to expect and I’m the first born :frowning:
I unfortunately couldn’t go to the Triton day so I don’t know much.
Is the study environment super competitive? and is it super hard to get a good GPA or does it depend on your major?
I’m in ERC btw if that affects anything…
thank you in advance !

I study pretty hard and my spring break was at the same time as UCSD was having finals so I went to Geisel to do homework and I was pretty shocked at how hard some of those people study. I put in some very long days and there was people that were going at it when I got there and stayed after I left. If you go first thing in the morning, you will sometimes see students sleeping in the library. I’m sure the workload varies with majors, UCSD probably attracts people that study way harder than they need to, and to be fair it was the week before finals, but that’s what I saw while I was there.
