UD Distinguished Scholars

@stellacastor @cdk If I may ask, what were your stats / the stats of your daughter?

We’re your offers sent to your child’s regular email, or a UDel on line email?

@mtown27
SAT I: 2080
SAT II: 530 Physics, 650 Bio E, 710 Literature, 740 Math I
ACT: 34
AP: Lang (4), Lit, Psych, Physics
ECs: VP of GSA, FIRST Robotics member, multiple years of library work, two years of chorus

@Skylar11 I got an e-mail to my Common App email address, and in it it said “Additional details are being mailed to you and will also be available on your portal, My Blue Hen Home.”.

@mtown27 my son’s full stats are on one of my posts somewhere, but briefly:
UW GPA 4.0; all honors/AP, top 5%, ACT 35, SAT2s 800/760, mostly 5s on APs with 1-2 4s, decent ECs (varsity sports, some clubs, leadership positions, etc). We assume he had good letters of recommendation.

It is going to be interesting to see what exactly happens with his UD scholarship offer. He has applied to 10 other top 20 schools and all will notify in March. He is accepted for UD Bioengineering. I suspect there are not many other places he would consider if he was offered a full ride at UD.

@stellacastor thanks for the info!

Looking around CC and the internet for some more info on DiScho, and I found this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-delaware/1614850-distinguished-scholars-competition-questions-thread.html) stating that “every student invited receive[s] a scholarship equaling at least full tuition”
 Anybody know if this is true?

@stellacastor absolutely true. About 70 receive ~$23,000 per year, or basically full tuition. 20 receive more, anywhere from 23-30k+ per year, and 10 receive full rides with tuition, room, and board.

If i haven’t been accepted yet, does that mean I’m out of the running for distinguished scholars?

@spirits In short, the answer to your question is “yes.” :frowning: We were told when we asked admissions on Monday that all invites were out.

My daughter just heard about the Distinguished Scholars this evening via email. A hard copy will follow soon. She only applied Jan. 15th so we are quite excited to hear this news. We are oos so a scholarship would be fantastic especially since Del. has a marine science undergrad. program.

LMHLAW3 congratulations to your daughter! Would you mind posting her stats?

@LMHLAW3 see post above

Has anyone received their packets?

@lulu123456 Nope! Forgot there even was one, haha.

@stellacastor thank you! Hopefully soon.

Got my Distinguished Scholars letter today. D.[br]dzander@udel.edu[br]Director of Admissions”[br][br][br]Pretty sure “Noon on Friday, March 20” is a typo, but looks like if you haven’t out that you’re a DiScho by today, you’re either not a DiScho or you’re extremely unlucky. Here’s to seeing everybody on DiScho weekend!

D2 stats: 31 act/4.36 gpa, IB student, excellent references and essays, Theater/chorus, NHS, etc., URM, just to name a few

Anyone know when we get more info about the weekend? I registered, but I haven’t gotten any more info after that (such as what hotel we are staying in, what honors student I’m rooming with on Thursday, etc.). Have I missed something?

@LovePeanutButter Same! I guess we’ll just be waiting a couple more days, and then we’ll get some info.

I called the admissions office Fri and they said they will be sending an email with info a few days before the weekend.
