Thanks!
Woo-hoo! Just got my confirmation e-mail around 1pmest, and an e-mail from my Redding host a couple hours later! Looks like weâll be staying in the Courtyard Marriott.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there - if you need a friend, just chat up the girl with the poofy bleach-blonde hair!
Hi there everyone!
I am a freshman DiScho who is going to be involved in the weekend this year. Congrats to everyone invited and just a little tidbit that might put some minds at ease: everyone single one of you that attends the weekend (barring aby disciplinary issues) will get a minimum of a scholarship that covers tuition. Definitely still do your best in the interview, discussion, and general interactions with the selection committee but donât be too stressed out.
I know some of you have obviously been accepted into great schools, but definitely consider the benefits of being a big fish in a big pond. At UD DiSchos get a lot of priority and opportunities that would be difficult to get elsewhere - I personally chose UD over an Ivy League school due to this scholarship and the benefits that come with it. Just come in with an open mind and ready to have fun⊠and also talk a lot about yourself, your goals, and your interests.
Also remember to bring a nice outfit for a formal dinner and a business casual outfit for interviews!
Iâll be in Redding hosting on Thursday, talking to you guys in the lounge Friday, and also at the dinner Friday. Feel free to ask me any questions here over the next couple days or over the weekend. Canât wait to meet you all!
I hope the distinguished scholars weekend went well for everyone. We decided to drop out of the competition when D2 received full tuition scholarships at W & M and U. of Richmond. It is bittersweet because UDel had the undergraduate program that she wanted. A lot of tough choices. Hope you all get a big scholarship.
My D absolutely oved the DiScho weekend, but now she is on pins and needles waiting for the Scholarship decisions to come out. She has four schools left on her list with full tuition plus from two of them and a full ride from another. If Delaware offers her a scholarship that is competitive with those it might well be the winner. I know all four are pretty close in her mind, and she still has accepted student visits at two of them, but she was really over the top happy after the program this weekend. Crossing fingers and toes time!! (-:
@Skates76 did Delaware say when DiScho results would be available as far as scholarships, and do they post online, email, or regular mail?
@CDK It sounded like they would be sent hard copy and posted to the portal with a week plus or minus a few days for a timeframe. As I recall their portal has been a little wonky this year, and not sure how they will time that versus mailings. Some is just guess work from what DiSchoâs from last year said happened then. Best of luck to you!!
IIRC, my daughter found out via phone call from UD within a week or two of DiScho Weekend, followed by a letter.
Nothing yet on portal and no letter 1 week after DiScho weekend; hopefully soon!
Same for my daughter. Nothing yet!!
Hey Bailey
My daughter attended Discho weekend. Any idea when the decisions will go out?
@BandMominnj , the FB group concluded the decisionsâll be out sometime this week, I think. (If your daughter isnât in the FB group, btw, search âDiScho Class of 2020â!)
DiScho awards are posted. My son received the Telkes, for $30,000 per year; very happy for him.
Interesting on the awards page, his Trustees scholarship of $10,000 per year is still listed, with a total of the two being $40,000 per year. Does anyone know if both stay in effect together?
I saw that as my daughter just copied and pasted hers for me. She is over the moon as she received the Eugene DuPont, which makes me think that the $10,000 Trustees award above it on her portal canât be added to hers at least, not sure about others.
I called UD, and both his Trustees and Telkes are in effect. I agree that a DuPont probably eliminates the Trustees. @Skates76 What does your âShopping Sheetâ say for âNet Costsâ?
Got a Francis Alison award! Woohoo! Best of luck to all the other DiSchos with their college decisions.
Congrats CDK and stellacastor! I only have a screen shot from the portal and canât click on any of the links. She keeps her portal passwords strictly to herself, but you are right, it would make more sense in the case of the Telkes. It was one of the questions I had going into DiScho weekend.
BTW, my daughter met you at the DiScho weekend and had tons of great things to say about you @stellacastor (-:
My sonâs Trustees disappeared. Just Telkes. Hmmm. Still great but I spent 15 minutes on a phone call with UD and they said both were applicable.
I have to say that I have had more uninformed phone calls and emails during the college search process than I ever would have imagined. I had a similar question at a different school where the website said no scholarships stack, but the letter we received allowed for stacking. It took a week and three emails back and forth before I had an answer that left me more confused than when I started. I guess I shouldnât be surprised as I have worked at large institutions and found that kind of thing is simply typical of any bureaucracy. That is understandably very frustrating.
Called FinAid and no, DiScho and Merit scholarships do not stack, for anyone still confused.
