i guess I’m the only left who hasn’t heard. congratulations to everyone so far.

@ landon, I’ve been told that decisions will keep coming out for Fall until late April. You shouldn’t be concerned about not getting a decision yet. It’s very early. :)

i applied for summer b. were you summer b or fall?

ah yeah I haven’t heard yet.

CALS also, 4.0 GPAs, all my pre-reqs will be done as of summer. Aghhh, I wish they would just get back to us already!

@ landon: I was Fall. I heard that summer B decisions came out the same time as fall though, but that was from a CCer not anyone at UF.

@ vivaladan, does it say that you will be taking the pre-reqs over the summer on your transcript? If they don’t know for sure that you’re enrolled in those classes for the summer term, there could be real problems. UF is serious about their pre-reqs, there can’t be any confusion as to whether or not you’ll have completed the pre-reqs by the time you attend.

I’m sure you’ve got your bases covered but just in case I thought I’d bring it up.

Hey everyone,
Im a bio major at FIU and applied to CLAS for summer A. I was rejected. so i decided to try again and applied for summer B. I spoke to an advisor at the school and they said that the biology major for CLAS and CALS is pretty much the same thing so i changed my college to CALS (they also said it was easier). has anyone else taken this kind of loop hole in order to get in?

GPA-3.49
from FIU
volunteered at hospital
very strong essays.

It’s true that CALS is much easier to get into that CLAS. Community college transfers still get priority though. Did you get your AA from FIU?

yeah i just hope so. But yeah, ill be finished with it after this semester. I called the advisor today at CALS and asked what a competitive GPA would be for a univ transfer, they said 3.0 and above. i guess that kinda relaxed me a little

@SeanCris, yes I made sure that my transcripts showed that I would be taking the last class I need for my major. So hopefully they’ll recognize that when making a decision!

Hey everyone. I have been lurking for a while without posting, but I figured I would throw my hat in the ring also.
I am an SFC student, and I will finish my AA this semester. I am trying to get into CLAS majoring in Physics for Summer B. My GPA is not so hot, so I am not holding my breath on getting in.

A little history of myself:
I started at Embry Riddle in Daytona, but my mom didn’t agree with my grades so I was on my own. I am from South Carolina so it took me a year once I dropped out of Riddle to get my FL residency. After I got my residency I started at Daytona Beach CC, and started looking around for a 4 year to transfer to. UF was the hands down choice. I transferred to SFC to finish my AA and here I am now.

I am very active in the local political scene and have a couple of extra curricular’s I do such as Student Government and Model UN.

I have applied to UF, FSU, and UCF so I know I am going somewhere. I just don’t know where yet. The only place I have heard back from so far is UCF, and they said they were going to wait until I finish this semester before they make their decision. I figure if UCF said that, my chances at UF are slim to none. But there is always that chance.

I wish everyone else the best of luck, and I am sure everyone is checking their status as frequently as myself. (Like 1am, and then again at 3am just in case, LOL)

lianneUF…I am in the same situation as you are, coming from FIU.
I initially considered applying to UF for Biology in CLAS, and I contacted the college before applying. They told me Biology is highly competitive to get into, since all other State Universities offer it, and more so in CLAS. I mentioned earlier in this thread that some majors are easier to get into than others, Biology is one of the more difficult ones.

In CALS there are several majors that are unique to UF, such as Soil Science, Youth Community Sciences, etc. Those majors are relatively easy to get into, since priority is given in terms of admit spaces to those majors since they are unique. Biology is at the last of the order, since all Universities offer it.

I am applying for the Microbiology Program within CALS, and I spoke with the advisor who told me I have a good chance. It is also important to note for everybody to calculate your GPA correctly, the credits that do not transfer or those on a different system may find their GPA isn’t what they anticipated.

Hey, has anyone got a decision for a civil engineering major. I applied for summer A, but i was told that the were looking at all of the summer and fall applications together.

cubanflorida, how do I know if I am calculating my GPA the same way that UF will see it?

You need to make sure all your credits transfer…if your are coming with an AA you should be fine. But from universities you need to make sure that your grading scale is the same (if not adjust) and that all credits transfer. The gpa is calculated using the credits that do transfer

@ vivaladan, then you’re golden. Worst case senario they may wait until May to get this semester’s grades, but they’ll definitely recognize that you’ll complete the pre-reqs if they’re on your transcript.

@ maxpedro, my understanding is that physics is not a very popular major and as such is less competitive. I have heard of math majors (probably the same level of competition) getting in with 3.1s. Also UF likes SFC students from what I understand. You’ve got reason to be very hopeful, if your GPA is above a 3.0.

Ah I feel so unprepared. I have a lot of different credits I think. Im trying to transfer from UCF to UF for FYC. I have 14 credits of dual enrollment from high school, that im positive count, and then what I have done here at UCF will amount to 45 at the end of spring. Im finishing 15 credits with the college that I was dual enrolled in at home over summer, finishing my last two pre-reqs (yes, i indicated I would be taking them on my application :)), and filling in my final credits with classes that were suggested to be taken for FYC. I just got my transient forms approved, which the college at home said they would give me the override for max credits for as long as UCF approved the classes first. My 3 sisters have all graduated from UF, I have always wanted to go there. I got rejected senior year, then appealed, rejected again, and decided in the middle of fall last semester that I was going to give it another try. However, since I decided kinda late to try to transfer, I have pretty much been finding out how to do this, as I do it, and thus…feel unprepared!

@ nautilus1, I suggest calling to find out if just noting that you’d be taking the prereqs at a community college will be good enough. You may have to enroll in classes and then have the transcript with the summer classes on it sent to UF.

I have some experience with the prereq issue and like I said, they’re pretty strict about it. If you don’t have it on an official transcript it may not be good enough for them to just take your word for it on your app essays.

What is FYC btw?

nautilus1 …

Make sure all of those transcripts were sent…if you took classes at locations other at UCF you must send transcripts from those institutions. It needs to be verified since it is third party work. I have 27 credits from high school, but i Had to send them in for them to count. You need to check with admissions to see if they transfer. The statewide course numbering system might be able to help you with that.

@sean

I have an AA GPA of around 3.5, but my cumulative is somewhere between a 2.8 and a 3.1 depending how they calculate it. I retook a lot of classes, and I heard that UF averages everything together, and doesn’t replace them. So, I applied on the off chance, considering that the Physics program is underfilled.

Still waiting for a response though.

Seancris, I will definitely call to make sure they have everything they need in the way of my upcoming summer classes. I will be picking my schedule this week and was informed if I have it faxed over to the college at home by march 31st I should be able to get all classes picked!

Cubanflorida, I definitely made sure they got my dual enrollment transcripts and UCF transcripts so far, i ordered and sent them in January with my application. I think I’m going to take your advice though and call admissions to make sure they are accepted credits!

Thanks for the advice, i really do appreciate it!

And FYC is Family, Youth, and Community Sciences. Its in CALS and was Tebows major! haha Im a psych major now at UCF but FYC is more along the lines of what I would like to do!
