Hey everyone,
So I currently live in Minnesota and after completing two years of community college here I got accepted into the University of Florida for computer science.
I completed my high school in India and have gotten waitlisted from University of Minnesota twice and will be applying again this year for transfer but have little to no hope. I’m wondering if a double major in computer science and business administration in University of Florida is worth the move compared to just going to a small local college like Metropolitan State.
Any advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks guys!
Have you been to UF? Is it the right fit for you? I’ve lived in FL for the past 24 yrs. UF is the dream for many kids around here. It is a good school and a reach for most high school students. Tons of enthusiasm around being a gator. Haven’t met anyone who attends that doesn’t love it. That said, it’s really big. That’s not a bad thing, just realize what it is. Entering as an upperclassmen will be a different experience than the freshmen transition to college. I’m sure they have programming for that.
My only concern for you is comparing it to a “small local college”. That is about the other side of the world compared to UF.
Ya I am a bit worried about how my experience there will be but money’s not an issue, so my main priority is choosing the best program/path to enable me for a good career. My parents and friends all live in Minnesota which would be the only reason I’d pick a local college but I think I’ll end up going to UF.
Going to hs in India I wasn’t sure how good of a school UF was even after all the research I did on it, but what I’m hearing from a lot of people is that it is a really good school.
I suggest you check out the UF reddit forum and ask about the computer science program there. A lot of computer-oriented kids use the reddit forum. Google “UF reddit” and it will come up.
I did not know about that, thank you!
