Feel free to post your “chance me”'s here too! I’m SO nervous about admissions so I was just wondering what everyone thought:
In-State, applied Summer B, I also heard UF doesn’t consider the major listed on your application (I applied biochemistry for some reason but I’m planning on switching to psych)
Gender: Female; Race: White
Class Rank: 73/491
UW/W GPA: UW - 3.6, Recalculated W GPA: 4.4 (my gpa is lower due to spanish 5 last year)
ACT: 31
IB Diploma Candidate, my senior schedule is this (I had a rigorous junior year schedule so I took it a bit easier this year):
AP Art History
AP Stat
IB Psychology HL
IB English HL
IB TOK/History of Americas HL
IB Chemistry SL
IB Contemporary History HL
Extracurriculars:
4 year varsity swimming in addition to year-round club swim

I think my essay was above-average, I wrote it on beach lifeguarding and performing rescues etc.
@jhmoney When i toured FSU an admissions officer showed me my recalculated and i’m assuming its the same for both schools since they do it the same way? Could be wrong though
My son is also an IB student and applied to UF, but OOS:
4.0uw, 4.8 w, (UF recalc about 4.6)
5/427 class rank
1510 SAT
National Merit Semifinalist (Projected Finalist)
IB Diploma Candidate
2x State Tennis Champion and 8x National Championships Qualifier
Mathnasium Instructor
A few EC’s, some with leadership role
We are fairly confident he’ll get in, but have seen people with similar stats get rejected and don’t really know why. You never know. He wants to study physics and take advantage of Florida’s full-ride National Merit scholarship program. Fingers crossed! Good luck to you!
@BMC9670 those are AMAZING stats. I’m assuming he applied to honors too? I was in Gainesville the other week and went into the new physics building with my friend, it looked amazing. @jhmoney thank you, hopefully its enough to get in:)
@CCpancakes81 Thanks. We’re planning to visit in March over our spring break. @jhmoney I would hope so, but his only weak spot was the essays. They were OK, but aren’t going to blow anyone away. Not sure how big a role they play in admissions and honors acceptance.
@BMC9670 my school really prioritizes IB students over other students (we do have better teachers, guidance counselors, first priority when picking classes, etc). I have heard from other schools in my area that their IB program is a mess, so I feel pretty fortunate. That being said, IB was super rigorous but I would probably do it over if I had the choice. I met super driven, awesome people. The majority of our teachers really put in maximum effort and love their jobs. Junior year was an insane amount of work for me though, especially with language. Senior year has been relatively easy. Pre-IB classes were nothing special. IA’s and the extra projects we stress about like the Written Assignment in English or the EE or etc. are the worst parts about it, imo. Then again, I am a huge procrastinator (as are most IB kids).
@CCpancakes81 Thanks. I’m always curious to see how the program is received in other places. We really liked (and still do) the concept of IB - the standards, the curriculum, the way assessments are done, the TOK and EE, etc. However, being from a state where education funding is really low (AZ), my son’s school has trouble finding (and paying) qualified teachers. Some were great, but some were under-qualified to teach IB level courses. When my son got to second year IB physics, for example, the teacher can’t help him with much of the more difficult material, so he has help from the university near us. His IB Econ teacher taught AP and didn’t really seem to know what IB was, so he self studied for the test on his own. There were highlights, too, don’t get me wrong. And it was certainly more rigorous than any other program offered, so I’m sure it will help him prepare for the demands of college.
@BMC9670 I’ve heard that UF has always favored IB students, especially in florida (at least thats true at my school). The majority of IB kids will get in, while honors/ap/dual etc. its a lot more rare. UF is very aware of the rigor that IB puts its students through, to quote my guidance counselor. I guess we’ll find out

My essay is about a personal autoimmune health issue that I’ve dealt with since I was 8 and how it’s inspired me to pursue a career related to my experience.
Also, I emailed the rep for my district and informed them that UF is my top choice. I’ve also visited. I’m not sure if they take demonstrated interest into account though.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks, and good luck to everyone else!
@shanti531 I think you are on the bubble. Worried about your rigor. Does your high school offer a lot of APs? UF rewards kids who take tough schedules. For example, many kids in my sons school have taken six more APs than you. If your school doesn’t offer a lot of APs, then you might be ok.
Curious about my kids chances. I am cautiously optimistic. UF is the only Florida school she hasn’t heard from (admitted to all others, honors, scholarships). She is considered an in state applicant.
3.8 UW/ 4.1 W (we moved to Florida her senior year, a lot of her weighting didn’t translate- we realize GPA may be her trouble spot)
33 ACT
1000 + hours of community service
strong essay about overcoming a traumatic brain injury
Great ECs (involved in multiple varsity sports, theater, dance and cheer teams, and service organizations)
10 honors classes, 7 AP/DE
She’s moved around a lot, she’s on her 4th high school. This may work for her or against her. I welcome thoughts/opinions
