Currently a Junior in High School, but my year is pretty much finished so...

Here are my stats:

In-State

GPA Weighted: 3.93
GPA Unweighted: 3.69

SAT: 1160/1760
Practice ACT: 26 (I'm taking it in June for the first time and will most likely be taking it again in the fall).

APs: European History, Psychology, U.S. History, English Language & Composition
APs for senior year: Calculus AB, Statistics, English Literature & Composition, Macroeconomics, Government & Political Systems

Ethnicity: Hispanic
Community Sevice: Around 200+ hours.
ECs: Two years of tennis (JV freshmen year, then V sophomore year), Catholic Service Club (1 year), NHS (1 year/continuing senior year), peer minister/retreat team leader for youth group (1 year/continuing senior year).
Awards: Boys State Semi-Finalist, Mathematics Achievement Award.

I realize that both my GPA and test scores are below the average for UF and that my chances are already slim. I plan on applying for Summer B and I think that would better my chances, but not by too much. Are there any recommendations you might have of bettering my chances, or is it too late at this point?

Thanks in advance! Any input is much appreciated.

Applying for Summer B instead of fall doesn’t improve your chances at all, all students regardless of what semester they are applying for have equal chance. Definitely work on getting your test scores up, ideally to a 2000+ SAT or 29+ ACT.

Try very hard to get your test scores and GPA up. You are quite correct that you are in the low end of the range right now. You have pretty solid extra-curriculars and your ethnicity won’t hurt you, but I don’t think you would get in right now.

There probably isn’t a lot that you can do to really boost your GPA at this point, especially with your senior course load, but you can work on the test scores. Take the SAT and/or ACT several times, practice really does help with those tests. If you can pull off an impressive score there it might help outweigh your GPA.

I think you have a pretty good shot. Those stats look a lot like mine and I got accepted this year.

There’s been quite a number of people with those stats who’ve been accepted to traditional UF. You’re well rounded, work on your test scores though just to be sure. Focus on your essay as well.

Also on the application you should see something regarding the innovation academy. Its a program and if you want to know about it, go on the IA website.

As a note, don’t rely too much on info. or chances on college confidential. Much info. on college confidential is speculation and lying. This is internet of course. And in terms of chancing, too many ppl think it’s just about gpa and test scores when it’s about gpa, test scores, rank, essay, extracurriculars, community service, even legacy.

chickenwings, I’m not relying totally on what everybody’s saying on here or the Internet in general, but I was curious as to whether or not it would be worth it to apply. I’m not really the type to get overconfident just because someone says I have a good chance haha.

But thanks a ton for your input. I do plan on taking the ACT a couple times and trying to boost up my score a couple points (hopefully to a 28-30).

Lol okay, that’s good! Some people tend to take college confidential a bit too seriously/as if its a proper source of information. But it’s good you don’t take it as such lol.

And also, there’s no harm in applying regardless. You may end up pleasantly surprised lol

I would keep adding to your volunteer hours…really work hard on your admission essay. Try to make your essay stand out…keep trying to improve your GPA and I wouldn’t worry too much about the ACT/SAT…just try to do aw well as you can. If you don’t try you will never know, it honestly can’t hurt to try. Best of luck to you!

I will be attending and my unweighted was actually lower than yours. Get the hours for Comm. service and test test test test. Despite what everyone thinks about “holistic” admissions, a great score will definately be of more assistance than feeding someones grandma in a group home. You’re solid. No worries.
