UF isn’t very generous with merit based aid. However, the few scholarships they do hand are excellent. Many of these scholarships also have a need-based component.

What a difference a week makes. Last Friday we were all wondering about a mysterious e-mail and quietly or not so quietly freaking out as we waited for 6pm.
Today my daughter officially accepted her invitation for Gator Engineering at Santa Fe. Mission freaking accomplished. Go Gators.
ps. If anyone has questions about GE@SF, I will be happy to try to answer them now and into the future.
@Gator88NE Hi! Just wanted to thank you so much for answering my questions!! Everything is much clearer now. I will definitely take your advice.
i got into the honors program upon admission, is there a good chance i will get a scholarship as well? i’m an OOS applicant and hoping for some merit money
@Juckerz First congratulations. UCF is a rising star so I would feel good that it is an option for you (with money). I don’t know what your major will be or what you hope for your career. This, too, may be a factor in decision. I work for a company that hires a lot of interns for our sales organization from these schools. UCF actually has a sales program and UF does not. All they care about is that you show you have “grit”. You would have a good story in an interview of being accepted but making responsible decision. Wherever you go - thrive! It is what you do with what you have - honestly!
@CrazyDad9 and @imanervous At least for UF admissions, they are forbidden to make admission decisions based on race. Here is the article. I believe there is even an option to check a box that indicates you chose not to indicate your race. I’m noticing this more and more and often I, myself, will chose that option.

@Juckerz one job option (may be competitive to get) is professors hire students to work on their research. So there may be the ability to get paid to do research in your areas of study. Also, lots of independent scholarships out there - it is work to find and apply for them. I am late to reading this string so perhaps this issue is wrapped up.
It’s rare to be paid to do undergraduate research, especially at UF with it’s many grad students.
However, they do several programs that aim to support undergraduate research, such as the University Scholars Program:

Another example, this one in the College of Engineering: The Emerging Scholars Program

@Parman37 Thanks man, I appreciate that. I think I’m going to be reckless though, and do whatever it takes to attend UF. My brother is at UCF and I won’t hear a bad word against the place, but I’m somewhat obsessed with Materials Science and UCF offers no undergraduate degree in this discipline.
I’ve met several of my daugher’s engineering friends that all transferred from UCF to UF, as they wanted to get into majors not offered at UC. That includes Material Science. It’s likely UF’s best respected engineering program, but not many kids know about it. It’s not super hard to transfer into (like Mechanical).
@Gator88NE Thanks for keeping all the facts straight. I was speaking to a UCF professor and she told me this (a year ago). Maybe that is an institution by institution thing. Good to know because I was telling my son to look in to it when he gets there. LOL. @Juckerz I’m sure you figured out Gator88NE is quite knowledgeable and you sound like you have a plan. Hope my son meets you at UF!
Does UF offer a lot of need based aid?
Did anyone else get an invitation to the Top 10 reception?
@parisdreamer13 yes, just in the last hour.
