I registered for the Florida Days event on March 12th. I got the e-mail at 4:53 P.M. Everyone make sure to check folders/spam, I have g-mail and my invite got filtered into the “promotions” folder.
Gator88NE- was that an email for the engineering event? We’ve gotten the other emails, but nothing about that… That’s an event my son would actually like to attend. No need for Florida Days as he is already set on going to UF. Thanks!
@livingis2me No E-mail
Last year I didn’t learn about the event, until it was over. So this year, I knew to “google” it and see if the website was active, and it was. If you’re an engineering student, this is the one to attend.
However, If you have already made your decision to attend UF, these things are really just optional. When you go through the 2 day Preview in the summer, much of the same information will be covered. If you want, you can feel free to skip Florida Days (IMHO).
We went last year, but it was just an excuse for us to visit UF, walk around, and take my daughter, who was/is a current student, out to dinner.
@Gator88NE
He will definitely be attending the engineering event. I’m not sure he would have found out about it if it weren’t for your post. Thank you!
How many students are invited into Gator Engineering at Santa Fe? Where do these students live, is there an apartment complex that most of these students live? What is the success rate of this program? How many students actually matriculate to UF and do they graduate? My son is considering UF and FSU Engineering.
@CollegeMom2211 @SantaFeAVP has been answer questions in this thread on the program. See this posting for info on GE@SF housing (they will be able to use UF housing).

I would think the success rate is 90%+, these students are all very capable, and as long as they make progress toward their degree, they become UF students.
They target about 60 students a year for the program (they will offer it to about 240 and expect about 60 to accept). I would think most matriculate to UF and graduate. Of course, some students will end up switching majors, and engineering isn’t’ for everyone, but I’m pretty confident that the graduation rate for GE@SF students is higher than those in the FSU-FAMU program. Overall , FSU graduation rate is 80%, while UF’s is 89%, and I’m sure engineering is similar.
Reach out to Santa fee and I’m sure they can answer most of your questions.
Good Luck!
@CollegeMom2211 According to the UF admissions report, about 260 kids were invited last year and 58 accepted. The program wants to have about 60 this year as well. Students are invited to this at the time of admission, so it is not an option unless the student is specifically chosen for it. It started about five years ago. Have not seen any statistics. They are encouraging invited students who are interested to attend one of three orientations being held over the next few weeks. My daughter accepted and we are going up in two weeks. I chose pre-law on my application but I just got an email that says I chose pre-health (which is incorrect). Did anyone have the same problem/does anyone know what I should do?
@mileshaley5 Have them change it at Preview. You can contact admissions and they may also change it.
So I’m not sure if the housing agreements were sent in batches because my gatorlink shows I received the same e-mail at three different times (2:24, 2:27, and 5:02). Or maybe they are really excited to have me register
@mileshaley5 Yes! My son got an email from the Pre-Health dept. on Monday and it said he received the email because he indicated an interest in Pre-Health. (which he clearly did NOT) He is also pre-law but will be majoring in Economics and marked that on his app so we were wondering what happened ourselves. Planning to make sure we get that cleared up at Preview
@Gator88NE Re: GEE - if a student did not put Engineering as their major but is curious about it, would they be allowed to go to this? It doesn’t look like it is by invite only.
@Parman37 I don’t see any reason why not. Go for it.
Has anyone received the acceptance letter in the mail yet? They said it would be sent out in “a few days” but I still haven’t received it
@CollegeMom2211 Thanks for your interest in the Gator Engineering @ Santa Fe (GE@SF) program. I will refer you to Jennifer Gove-Cooper, UF’s Coordinator for GE@SF (jgove@eng.ufl.edu). She is the best one to respond to questions about how many students were admitted for 2018 and to discuss the program participants’ success rate (Spoiler alert: It’s really high!).
A limited number of GE@SF participants will be able to live on campus at UF this year, an expansion if a pilot program we began in 2017. Other students live in any one of many student-focus off campus housing options (usually apartments) available in Gainesville. To help you find a place, UF’s Office of Off Campus Life provides an online Housing Service: https://housing.offcampus.ufl.edu/
@rajiv5612 join the Facebook group UF Families of 2022 it says when letters go out in us mail.
My daughter got into the Pre-health program ; but is interested in the Biomedical engineering program. She was advised she can review this in “Preview orientation” . What does that mean ? Is that after commitment?
@momclassof2018 Preview is the 2 day orintation all enrolled students go through. It’s in may, june and july (I think).During Preview, you’ll be able to select your classes for the fall (or Summer B). Also during preview you can switch your classification.
@momclassof2018 She would change her major to “pre-BME”. BME is a limited enrollment program, but she shouldn’t have any issues swiching her major in Preview. She will need to apply again to her major in her Sophomore year. At this point (it’s ramped up in size significantly over the last 3 or 4 years), it’s not super competitive.
Thank you @Gator88NE
