UF FALL 2017 Acceptance: Freshmen & Transfers Welcome

@tryingtobeagata3 The College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida is a limited admissions college. However, It’s a lot easier getting accepted into UF Online program, than the on-campus majors.I don’t see a reason for you to worry, just make sure you’ve completed all of your required courses.

Good Luck!

@Kal-El96 why do you think its harder to transfer from a state university?

@Gator88NE Thanks so much :slight_smile:

@tryingtobeagata3 It’s not that I think, I know it is a lot more difficult for university transfers to get in as to why I’m completely unsure. Community College graduates have more priority over other admission applications. I know people who applied with higher GPA’s than yours, and sill got rejected. But as Gator88NE said, it maybe a little easier to get accepted in the online program.

My daughter was admitted to UF for the Fall of 2017 out of High School. My son is a Sophomore at a local university trying to transfer into UF for Computer Sciences. Been about a month now and no decision. My daughter isn’t sure if she wants to accept yet and is waiting on her brother’s results. I would really like her to go there and am really hoping my son gets in. His GPA is only about 3.4 right now and hoping it goes up this semester. Is April when they’re likely to make a decision?

@jajsmom I will say this, if your daughter got excepted I would convince her as a parent to go anyways you never want to skip an opportunity like that, it’s a really great school and although she may have a super amazing bond with her brother it’s not a decision that should hold her back. there’s a lot of opportunity at that school. However as far as her brother because of that major being what it is and because of his GPA being where it’s at I would recommend sending him to a community college preferably Santa Fe where he’s right next to his sister so that he can use the 2+2 program to have a direct connect with UF. Sorry for the awful sentence structure. I’m being lazy and use my phone’s dictation.

@jajsmom If your son has less than 60 credit hours (since they are transferring from a 4 year university), they have to met Freshman admission requirements. Assuming they met the 60 credit requirement, then they need to have completed the 7 critical tracking courses. That’s the most common reason transfer students don’t get accepted. He’s GPA should be fine at 3.4.

Getting into UF computer science isn’t as crazy as it is at some other schools (mostly out of state). CSE (Computer Science in the College of Engineering) is more competitive, than CSC (CS in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), as well as Digital Arts and Sciences (DAS). For example, the recommended minimum GPA to be competitive for CSC is only a 2.5.

If your son doesn’t get accepted, it’s likely due to missing a class or two, in which case he’ll need to take those classes and then transfer.

Good Luck!

Hi! I have a couple of questions about transferring to the same program as you

@lux400 what’s up?

@Gator88NE , my son is finishing up this semester at UWF and will be taking two classes over the summer to get his 60 credits. It’s all put on his transfer application. Just hoping we get a decision by mid April. Not sure how long it takes for them to make decisions.

@Kal-El96 , I think my daughter is just scared to be far way from home. She talks about going local for two years and then transferring into UF. I still think she should still go straight to UF though. I told her to take a couple of weeks to think but hoping she makes a decision soon.

@jajsmom it’s not bad either, however in terms of independence she’s gonna have to learn. In terms of being financially responsible then home is the way to go. I did it and I’m fine.

I got an email from UF saying my “application is progressing.” Does that mean I’ll know if its being sent to the College of Journalism soon?
Thanks

@tryingtobeagata3 they are calculating your GPA, and reviewing your application. And it depends on what your GPA is, but if you applied after our college due date, then you’re at the bottom of the totem pole.

@tryingtobeagata3 The application is processed by admissions. Once you meet the base requirements for admission your application is sent to the College of Journalism. This time a year J school is processing applications fairly quickly. Hopefully you did the tour and talked to the counselors in the path office.

@tryingtobeagata3 you’ll be fine just call and follow up that’s really important.

@tryingtobeagata3 , my son’s was just recently switched from calculating GPA to submitted to College of Liberal Arts. I’m just hoping they make a decision soon and don’t keep us waiting another month. He submitted back in Feb. I believe. We keep checking every day.

@Kal-El96 What was our college due date? and @OrlandoGator I didn’t do a tour. I’m applying to UFOnline… I don’t think the tour would be necessary right?
And when should I call? Soon, or after they’ve already sent it to the College?

@Kal-El96 I actually just checked the deadlines for applications. I see that the College of Journalism app was due March 1st. But, because I’m applying to UFOnline that is different, and it is actually June 12th. So I think it’s okay.

@Kal-El96 do admissions even consider applicants with less than the minimum amount of credits needed? What are the basic requirements?
