Not taking any parent plus loans. By me saving, contributions of my mom and my son taking Stafford loans I am hoping to make it work.

that’s good. i’ve heard horror stories bout that prent plus loan.

@jerome CONGRATS!!! My awards were finally posted. Thanks to FOS, bright futures, and pell grants I AM SET!

@niqueb1 Thank you. I am set as well. I have the same thing.

I meet all the criteria, and never got any mail/email regarding the FOS at UF. However, my financial aid also has not been finalized, according to UF ISIS. What should I do?

@Matchstixx
I recommend that you send the financial aid office an email. It worked for @jeromefulton. they may have overlooked you or maybe something was unfinished.

Thanks, I went ahead and emailed Mrs. Fooks. Really need this money, so I hope something can be done.

They will be giving the FOS out until May so keep hope alive.

I spoke to my financial aid advisor and she said my application was still under review and it’ll take at least a few weeks for an answer. I’m kind of confused about the whole process.

I was told most packages would be given out by the end of this week…

Anyone receive a response from Mrs Fooks yet?

What’s Mrs. Fooks’ email?

^ Ha was just about to ask that. Also when contacting Mrs. Fooks to you include your UFID?

Haha. Always include your UFID! That’s how they know you.

"No, not all the FOS awards have been made yet. We are reviewing applications now but it is a very detailed, in-depth and time-consuming process. We can only fund 400 new scholars but we had over 1300 potentially eligible students who meet the basic criteria. So fewer than one in four students will actually be offered a scholarship. We take a look at each individual applicant to make a determination about family circumstances. We look at assets, home value, household size compared to income, etc. We may ask applicants to submit tax returns or other documentation to help us gain a better of understanding of the economic situation. The program is designed from students from historically low economic circumstances and not for students whose families may have had better economic circumstances in the past but may now be struggling economically due to job loss or downsizing, divorce etc.

Awards offers for new students will be going out over the next few weeks because we know you need to know your financial aid package in order to decide where you want to go to school next year."

If I would have known this prior to emailing her, then I wouldn’t have emailed her because she is probably getting bombarded with questions now. Just hang in there, give it a few weeks; if you don’t hear back then, then I say go ahead and email.

I emailed her about something else - not about that. But if you want to email her, the link is on this website - [About Office of Vice-President, Student Affairs, University of Florida](http://www.ufsa.ufl.edu/aboutufsa/vicepresident/vp_council.shtml)

Don’t feel bad about emailing her - it’s her job to answer these questions. They will stay very, very busy from now until the first week or so of school. There’s never a good time to talk to the financial aid advisors!

Applications are being reviewed in date order based on the date the FAFSA was received. Since we did not receive your FAFSA until March 8, it still be a little while before your application is reviewed.

Awards offers for new students will be going out over the next few weeks because we know you need to know your financial aid package in order to decide where you want to go to school next year.

@Esedragon, it seems as if we got about the same message.

hmmmm, but thats good news to hear that they are doing them based on when you turned in your FAFSA.

This is what my ISIS says:
You signed your Application for Federal Student Aid on: 1/ 6/2011
The University of Florida received your Application for Federal Student Aid on: 1/20/2011

To those out there that have recieved the FOS, what were your dates?

Did you guys receive Florida Student Assistance Grants?

So what you all are saying is that if your family is middle class. No matter how good your grades and test scores are you are out of luck on receiving a UF scholarship. right?

I don’t think so. I’m middle class and received no financial aid whatsoever from UF. But I did get a merit scholarship. I am a URM but I’ve seen others onthis forum who aren’t and have received scholarships
