Hi everyone, I was accepted to the University of Florida for the fall of 2018. I got my financial aid back and while I did get some money it wasn’t enough. I have very specific family issues so I know it will be different for every person, but I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried to appeal financial aid at UF and how that worked out? UF is my dream school and I really want to go. I sent my appeal in on Thursday and I am waiting to hear back but I’m just trying to figure out if I should get my hopes up or not. Let me know, thanks!!
The public schools don’t have a ton of money to give out as need based financial aid since many residents are covered by bright futures. They do have some Florida supplemental grant money (like SEOG) and if the situation is right, they can use professional judgment for the Pell grant.
Do you have another option? UF, even without need based aid, might still be the cheapest option.
Are you instate or OOS for FL?
Out of state
@twoinanddone can answer better than I can…but you are an OOS student asking a public university in a state where you don’t reside to give you more money.
What makes this a dream school? And do you have affordable acceptances where you can fulfill your dreams?
I think the student actually has a better chance for aid as OOS, but the issue may be how much is enough.
Instate students are usually getting bright futures. The housing for UF is not terribly inflated, and meal plans are not required. You can keep it cheap. I would not expect a lot from UF. They have people begging, literally begging, to pay to go there. They just don’t have full ride scholarships.
You’ve submitted your appeal. Good luck.
What aid were you given?
What is the basis for the appeal
I agree. There are many people willing to pay full price to go to UF.
