I just got accepted into UF (c/o '11!!), and my friend and I want to room in Beaty Towers, because we like the suite style housing. However, I have heard how a girl committed suicide in the 70s, and how Tom Petty wrote a song about it, and I was wondering if Beaty Towers really IS haunted. My brothers both go there, and they say no, but they both lived in Hume as Freshman.

Rumors say that the 8th-12th floors of one of the towers is haunted, where people "claim" to see the ghost walking around, looking out the window, etc.

Can anyone confirm if Beaty IS/IS NOT haunted? Thanks!

its not a rumor...i saw it one time when i was in the bathroom doing my business...literally scared the crap outta me i didn't even have to push it out

Rach, I'm going TO KICK YOU IN THE FACE. Good lord, a couple of people ONLINE THAT YOU HAVE NEVER MET AND COULD BE LYING FOR ALL YOU KNOW say that it's haunted and you believe it? I WANT EVIDENCE.

Let me go talk to the ghost and go right ahead and shatter all world-wide skeptics about the supernatural to satisfy your college rooming reservations :P

Beaty is perfectly fine. I know people that live there that like it. The only problem for me is that the rooms are way too small. Wouldn't recommend to a freshmen if they want a traditional style dorm.

broward has great location, no doubt.. but in turn it sacrifices quality and they have found rats between the walls... it was featured in the newspaper, The Alligator, how students have been placing rat traps in order to catch their new neighbors.. conditions are horrible at Broward and personally I like having my own bathroom in my room. Out of any besides Beaty, I would take Jennings, its very social and theres tons of girls there

I disagree with mystic on broward. We visited quite a few times. It is a great dorm. It is very similar to Jennings (except the rooms have carpet and the closets face each other instead of the far wall) but closer to classes and much more social. Even ratio of boys to girls. Kids hang out everywhere. The bathrooms are communal but clean...there are multiple toilets and showers stalls so you almost never have to wait to use one, shower pressure is better than we have at home!

As for rats, they can be anywhere...in any dorm or house...they only need a space the size of a quarter to get in. Chances are, if they were found in Broward...they are also in many other dorm walls as well. Fact of Life. My daughter has never seen one.

Rooms in Beatty are tiny...so small that many kids keep the beds bunked. Four kids share a bathroom in Beatty...so if you gotta go and your roommate is in there....oh well.

i personally find it hard to coincidentally find the need to use the restroom at the same time as one of my roommates.. secondly, broward is pretty dirty and the carpets add to it.. and im sure there are rats in the older dorms, but there is a severe infestation in broward.. just save yourself the hassle and avoid broward.
what i will give broward credit for is its location to nearby classes, but that is it.
