Does anyone know someone who has successfully been admitted laterally to the Honors College? Does anyone know if it is difficult to get in, or if you have the stats you are in?

I have never heard of anyone getting in lateral admissions. But from my observations of the honors college, the general consensus is if you have the stats then its not that hard to get in. They just want to feel like they have the best people (i.e the ones that will apply to become Beckman Scholars, Rhodes Scholars, Goldwater scholars, etc). Just make sure you aim for straight a's you first two semesters.

Plus you can impress them by taking their honors classes. Little know fact is that you can take honors classes without being in the honors college, but you can only register for them at the end of registration and if seats are still available.

whats the benefit of taking honors classes? do they look better? how much harder are they?

The only benefit is that they have a much smaller class size. Same difficultly as regular ones.

Is there any special recognition given to those who took honors classes when they graduate?

No there is no special recognition. Each college/department has it's own honors recognition requirements.
