UF Housing Preferences Concerns (PLZ HELP)

So I’ve already applied for housing for summer and fall and already paid my $225 advance rent payment like in March and paid the $25 application fee when I signed up. I haven’t made my preferences yet for either of them because I’m still figuring out what’s right for me. I got accepted for the PROMISE program in the summer and they already said that that it was mandatory for me to live in the building they said and don’t have to pay for housing in the summer and didn’t have to pay the advance rent payment. All I’m asking is if it’s too late for me to pick my preferences to get what I want or do they go by paid date or the application fee date?

I’m thinking of going for Beaty Tower because I don’t want communal bathrooms and I want to live where it can feel more like apartment without a kitchen because I can’t cook and would eat from the university. If you can recommend me any building or housing that doesn’t have communal bathrooms and not that this is a concern but I would also prefer a dorm where the walls aren’t blocks but just plain smooth walls because it just makes me think I’m in prison. I’m also an engineering major but if the LLC has communal bathrooms, I don’t want it. Also is there any way of getting to visit the dorms on campus to see what it looks like? I’m going visit UF this Friday.

I would review the options on the UF housing website to see what might be the best match for you, but depending on when you sent in your initial deposit, your choices might be limited. Be prepared to compromise as most of the more popular dorms have communal bathrooms.

@GatorDad305 so what is the initial deposit, is it the $25 or the $225? And do you know when the deadline is for preferences?

My understanding is that the date that they go by for housing selections is when you sent in your initial deposit – which I think is the $25 or so amount. I think you should call housing and speak with someone about it.

@Akeeb4316 - just my two cents but I lived in Beaty and didn’t like it. It’s very very difficult to meet people because of the set up. People stay in their suites with doors closed. Never met or knew my neighbors. Not a great situation for a freshman. It was lonely until second semester when i finally met some people.

Other than Beatty, the only other non communal bathrooms is Lakeside or Cypress. You will have zero chance at Cypress as it is super popular. Lakeside is all the way on the west side of campus so it is a hike. My D just finished her freshman year and everybody she knows who stayed in Beatty as a freshman met very few people.

Advice would be to go communal and meet people.
