Hi guys.
I just received an acceptance from UF SSTP so I thought a 2016 thread might be useful. Who else is going or has gone before? How did lab placement work? How selective is the program? Any info would be great.
Thanks!

You may want to post your question in the UF forum.
I was also accepted! I’m waiting on word from other programs before I accept my offer though.
Nice! And same, but you have to return the form within 10 days Hopefully more people will show up… XD
@rustydreams how much info do you know about this program?? That’s where I am going this summer. Thanks
@yawninglion oh congrats! What do you want to know?
@yawninglion @Giraffe636 @rustydreams Congrats on your acceptances! I did SSTP last year, and I would highly recommend it. You meet a very diverse group of people who become your best friends over the 7 weeks, learn a lot of practical life skills (such as how not to start fires cooking), and of course get valuable research experience in your labs. It really helps to distinguish you as an applicant in the college admissions process, so if you are looking for an extra leg-up, the prestige of SSTP will help you. Many of my SSTP friends are going to top schools, including Cornell, Yale, Harvard, UPenn, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, UChicago, Stanford, etc. (and some with full rides!). If you have any questions about the program, feel free to ask!
Also, lab placement is fairly random. They take into consideration your preferences, but other than the very broad categories you ranked, they don’t seem to match you specifically on interest. The program is pretty selective for out of state students, less so for in-state, but that does not diminish its prestige as it carries a long tradition of excellence with the quality of research students with which students are involved.
We were told that due to demand, for 2016, SSTP would not be accepting any OOS students nor would they consider rising juniors anymore.
